Apparently Mo Salah wearing a suicide vest and making some comments about praying at half time etc...
Now he's clearly a chav/nasty individual and has mocked someone simply because of their religion, I'd suspect that most people would like to see some retribution or punishment for this bloke here.
I do wonder though - if you agree with this guy being punished then would you also agree with say someone mocking a famous scientologist? Say posting a doctored image of Tom Cruise and some aliens or some other scientology trope? Perhaps something involving the whole film crew?
Don't get me wrong I think the guy in this case is a probably a nasty piece of work and probably a racist, on the other hand, as a liberal, I think we need strong protection of freedom of speech - he's not called for violence or issued any threats, he's not tweeted racial slurs/abuse towards the person in question, he's simply mocked someone's religion with a doctored image.
As a result of his actions he was nearly given a custodial sentence, seemingly he's avoided that by showing some contrition... we have people caught carrying knives who avoid prison time and people involved in actual assaults against others but someone was seriously at risk of a custodial sentence because they tweeted something offensive relating to a person's religion? That's very dubious IMO.
