Not many good old time butchers left. All the butcher shops in my town that are left all use the "Take any 10 trays for a fiver" model. No actual meat counter where you can buy the amount you want.
Where do you live? Our town has four Butchers. I buy all my meat from one in particular. Perhaps with less access to cheap meat through supermarkets, we might see a resurgence in better quality meats and local Butchers?

A land where time forgot where people won't pay for quality meat. They are happy to pay £5 for 3KG of pumped up chicken breasts from a suspect origin. USA chicken will be no problem to these folk.

keep seeing everyone moan about usa chicken. Whats the actual problem with it, i hope its not because its washed in chlorine because that would be a pretty silly thing to get upset about

It's typical fear mongering and as said, if it's genuinely a concern, rather than having meat every day, they could maybe have it a couple times a week and afford the better quality stuff instead. Some people need a reality check don't they.

Its not the chlorination, its why they need to use it that is the problem.

Well of course that would be a completely different situation and it's a strawman point. Mind you, if that was the case, we'd do the same thing and look to more sustainable diets. Are you old enough to remember when we didn't or couldn't eat mangos, avacodo and such everyday?

I have no idea i don't and wouldn't eat them everyday. Aren't they generally cultivated outside the EU anyway?

Not everybody can afford quality meat from the local butcher though.......

Stop posting the all high and mighty position. We all know the issue that in general US meat is likely to be just as safe as UK chicken, the difference being is in the UK we have much higher standards of welfare and keep the chicken disease and bug free whereas the US approach is just to ignore it and then blitz the meat at the end to kill all the bugs, Personally I am a great believer in prevention over cure plus I dont want our animal welfare standards dropping (which would be the only way UK farmers could compete on price with the US)

And I don't want to eat their hormone and antibiotic pumped beef either.

So they don't eat it/eat it less, just like other luxuries.

I can't afford to eat fresh lobster every day either.

I'm kind of wondering what Waitrose is planning? Considering most of its produce comes from Europe it's shelves are going to be empty.

Nah, it will just be more expensive (which wont bother Waitrose since its the most expensive place anyway)

This reminds me of the 2K thing.

Nothing happened then. And nothing will happen now.

Why or why do people keep reposting this stupid myth as some kind of evidence to back up a no deal brexit? It just makes you look stupid tbh

Guess we'll have to eat less exotic imported food.

Just as @FoxEye said, we've been spoilt for years with cheap meat and cheap exotic food. It's all unsustainable and we'll do well to have a reality check. Maybe treat meat more like a treat like it should. Stick to a more healthy forager style diet perhaps?

so tomatoes and lettuce are now "cheap exotic food"? Yes we could go back to the 50s and just eat whats in season and grown in the UK but some of us don't want that and why as the 5th largest economy in the world, would we want to?

Dont eat it then. Stop frothing over anything and everything, its the remainers taking the high and mighty position over everything.

Which is easy to say but hard to do if country of origin is removed and I don't want to be forced to be a vegetarian thank you!

Plus I care for the UK farming industry and I don;t want to see half of them bankrupt replaced by factory farms with hormone fed beef and chlorine washed chicken thanks.

This may not bother you as you can clearly live of sovereignty and unicorn tears or you just eat crap already
