Hi all,

Bit out of touch with the market these days - what’s a decent budget cooler?

Will be used to cool an i7 6700 (non-K)

Used to be the 212 Evo - what’s king now for similar price point? (<£40)

Thanks in advance :D

The Hyper 212 is out of date and has been for years tbh.

You're not going to beat the following without spending £40-50 on something like a Mugen 5:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £23.99 (includes shipping: £0.00)

I've used a couple of these myself and they're absolutely cracking for the price. Here's a review for you:

Hold in mind the product I've linked on OCUK is basically the same as in the review, but comes with an extra 140mm fan, so it'll perform a little better.

Perfect, exactly what I was after :-)

Thanks

I agree.

I have one on my Ryzen 2600. Keeps Prime load temps at around 62 degrees. Best thing is the lack of noise.

No doubt you can get better coolers but given the cost of this and what you would have to pay, its a bargain.

I'm really liking the noise side of things - it's for my girlfriend's computer, and it's using the stock Intel cooler which is pretty loud even at stock. In fact, my PC under load (i7 6700K, Dark Rock Pro 3, 1070 Ti until recently) is quieter under load than hers at idle because of the stock cooler. Crazy.

I'll let you know thoughts once I've installed it. Didn't check but does it come with thermal paste, and is it any good? I've got MX-4 which I could use instead

It does, added points for it being in a little syringe instead of a sachet like some companies offer for their HSF's. I'd say it's about on par with MX-4 personally, pretty good stuff.

It's this exactly:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £5.44 (includes shipping: £0.00)

I've also linked the AM4 bracket in that, just for future reference. If you ever decide to upgrade her rig to a Ryzen platform you'll need that in order to fit the Brocken 2. Honestly given the price of the bracket it could be worth ordering just to be sure you can reuse the cooler down the line.

She doesn't use her system for much else other than a bit of planet coaster, cities skylines etc, so can't see the need to upgrade for a while :-)
