38" vs 34/35" Monitors

Does anyone know if the image on a 38" actually has a wider field of view than a 34/35"?

OR do things just look larger (like the difference between a 34" and 35") ?

I don't quite understand what you mean by wider field of view.

Regardless assuming the 34"/35" have are 1440p and the 38" is 1600p, and you have the monitors showing the exact same size image, and you are sitting at the same distance then:

38" compared to 34" an image will look 0.8% bigger

and for perspective 35" compared to 34" will look 3.0% bigger.

So a 38" wouldn't actually display more to see than a 35" the image would just get slightly bigger ?

Ohhhh you mean Aspect Ratio? On paper it is the same 21:9

but if you want to be precise about it then:

3440x1440 = 21.5 : 9
and
3840x1600 = 21.6 : 9

The 38inch would display more as there are more 400 more pixels vertically and 160 pixels horizontally.

As I said, the same size image on the 38" would look smaller than on 35"

Cheers for that. I saw someone mention on here that the 38" is 24:10 as opposed to 21:9 . I take it that is the literal aspect ratio increase?

Yeah it is 24:10, same as the 38UC99 (had one)

Either someone didn't do the maths or marketing people thought it would be easier to group the 38" into the same ultrawide category. :rolleyes:

For the same reason that 3840x2160 is advertised as 4k. Marketing departments can't count.

3840x1600 is 24:10 and 3840x2160 is UHD.

Because 21:9 is a popular ratio used in games, and 24:10 is 21.6:9 which is close enough to 21:9 that you won't notice any difference in games. To me, the most striking thing with the 38" monitors if their extra width.
