AMD Vega 56 vs GTX 1660

So ive been having a lot of issues with my Vega 56 and i think my card is faulty so im refunding it (or swapping for a new one not sure).

Would it be a good idea to buy the GTX 1660 or is the AMD VEGA 56 good enough, how big is the difference between them and are there are there any significant differencess?
 
Its the superior card of the two. You would have to go to a 2060 super to make it worthwhile or 5700.

Vega 56 is about 25% faster than a 1660 maybe more. Also if you undervolt the Vega, very easy (We can help you with this), you gain about 15% in performance

What problem are you having with your Vega? Also what is your Power Supply brand/model? That could be the problem as Vega is a power hungry beast

The 5700 is only about 10-15% quicker than a Vega so Vega is the value daddy

What is your monitor and what games do you want to run? Do you play the latest games? How long do you want to keep the card before upgrading

Sorry for the late reply, but ive had the card for about 6 months thinking that other components were affecting the gpu and it wasnt it at fault since it was so new. Ive upgraded my psu (3 times), ive upgraded my motherboard, ram, cpu and even bought a new ssd and my gpu is still crashing. I update drivers more than i shower at this point and still my gpu is being annoying just random crashes where its either a silent shut down where i lose visual before sound and the light on the gpu dissapears the same instant or the same thing happens but the gpu fan starts blasting away.

I have an Acer KG251QFbmidpx 144hz monitor which is also relatively new, as old as the gpu roughly so its pretty new also. I dont really play performance demanding games to be honest; mainly csgo, overwatch, fortnite and minecraft.

It sounds like you have a faulty GPU that needs returning. I'm not sure if it's a case of contacting the retailer or manufacturer and requesting a RMA. Other posters will be able to advice you better than myself.
 
Does the issue happen when gaming?

Try going into Global Wattman and sliding up the Power Limit % to 50 and then going back and check the games you were having issue with.

Assume you also haven't undervolted the card in Wattman? Make sure that's restored to default before you try above, otherwise you'll be introducing another variable that could be causing an issue.

Thank you for the reply, im not quite sure what an RMA is but i hope that i can send the card back and get a new one.

It happens when im gaming 95% of the time although it has happened when my computer is idle, i will try what u have suggested and hopefully it helps. I havent messed around with the card other than installation lol. Thank you for the reply!

Neither am I TBH. Start by contacting the retailer stating the card is faulty and under the Sale of Goods Act they need to provide a fully working replacement. They may then refer you to the manufacturer although they should really legally take care of it themselves.

Your issue is you will be without a card and system until the replacement arrives unless you have a back up card or APU, which is annoying I know.

Yeah that would be annoying probably like 2 weeks at least to get a new one, i do have another gpu although its pretty old.
