Hiya!

My wife has just finished her degree and received her result this morning...its a 2:1. Not a bad grade by any means of course however all of her modules etc received high marks so it should be a 1st class degree.

The Uni are basically saying the reason it isn't is because she didnt complete her practical hours (nursing) by September and therefore the result is capped.

This seems unfair to me...there were extenuating circumstances which meant she had to miss a placement and catch up later on and it was never explained her result would be capped. Can she appeal this? I have zero experience on this kind of thing...

Thanks

Usually, yes. Find out how she can lodge for a different outcome due to exceptional circumstances. The office of the dean of her former School is usually helpful for rectifying admin non-niceties.

e: The dean has discretion and leverage over the application of administrative policy decisions, being the chief decision-maker. A personal face-to-face appointment (with another present) often suffices to get it sorted.

She should be able to appeal it. I had something similar due to an exploding call bladder and had to formally appeal to the University (brick and mortar in my case). Required proof of the issues even though they had it on record and was a complete mare.

why don't you ask the uni if she can appeal, instead of a GD forum on a computer parts site?

Because if its anything like the University I go to, asking if anyone has had a similar experience on forum is a lot easier than trying to actually find out through the university ; they often make these things purposefully vague

Thanks, I just wanted to know where she would stand really and if it would be something she could appeal...you know peoples personal opinions and experiences etc.

Exactly this. Why people feel the need to make these kind of comments is beyond me. Look at the front page of this very forum and its full of thrwads nothing to do with computer parts.
