Gents

If I'm only running the app on my iPad and I want to install a new controller (Gen 1 POE) do I have to hard reset both LR APs + US-8-60W and then adopt them onto the new controller?

One is right in the rafters of my lost and a pain to get to :)

If I have to then thats fine

Cheers

If you can SSH in then there is a command you can run. Alternatively use existing controller and choose "forget" and that will cause the kit to default.

Thats the issue my iPad seems to have lost connection, I'm sure watching the youtube vids you can adopt the APs if they do show as "managed by other" will have a play tonight I guess, thanks!

I've got a nanoHD.

I need a router with at least 6 ports as my current one with 4 isn't enough some netgear router so I'd like to go router only with no wi-fi to free up the airways. Oh I also have a spare PC i''m planning on turning into a pfsense router, so should I just need a switch instead of a router as such? I already have a intel NIC with 2 ports for this pf sense build.

I'd also like to mesh as my nanoHD struggles to give a good signal to my nest hello doorbell so currently using a booster for that.

Should I replace the nanoHD with a better AP then use the nano as the mesh? Or should I get another nanoHD for mesh purposes?

I currently have a pi4 4gb running as a controller will this still be needed after using pfsense?

What’s people’s view on HD vs Pro APs?

I have a lite and a pro at mo. Pro doesn’t provide enough coverage for a decent signal to the back of the house. The lite is meshed via wireless link to the pro.

looking at getting another AP to run in pure bridge mode to an Ethernet switch upstairs.

Would love Ethernet around the house, but not willing to chase out walls and rip the house apart for it. Looking at another UniFi for the task or an alternative AP.

Running a UniFi switch too, but tbh I’m not keen. Hate the way you configure them, I’m used to Procurve and Cisco switches.

The Pro is a 3x3 MiMo access point. If you have a 1x1 or 2x2 client connected, all clients connect at 1x1 or 2x2. That’s it’s major drawback.

The HD, HD-Nano IW-HD are second wave access points and are 4x4 MuMiMo so you can have combinations connected at once so you could have

1 4x4 client connected
2 2x2 clients connected simultaneously
4 1x1 clients connected simultaneously
2 1x1 clients and 1 2x2 client connected simultaneously

and the listening range on the HD is the best in the line-up. The HD-Nano isn’t quite as good but it would be as good as the old LR.

so I can’t see any reason (apart from price) to go with anything other than an HD Wave2 access point.

So I've setup my Cloud Key (Gen1) adopted my US-8-60W, and 2x AP-AC-LR everything has been left on auto/default but is there anything I could tweak to boost the performance/range or just leave as is?

Thanks chaps

PS How do people draw the maps of their house (Bungalow in my case) layouts?

I guess you could scan and see which channels are less utilised.
I remember previously someone saying they had better success and range with changing power outputs to medium or low.

I only use 5Ghz with 2.4 fully turned off. I have the one WLAN/SSID for them. Each of my AP’s are on different channels and I’ve just set the transmitter power to low.

Interesting.

very little info on it though. £175 I found it online for.

what do you want to know about it? It’s EXACTLY the same as the HD-Nano and IW-HD except for the packaging and the 360-degree antenna. I’ve had a Beta unit for about 4 months and it has all the same performance as the other baby Wave2 HD units.

£175 incl. VAT and delivery sounds about right. That’s about the same as the list price of the HD-Nano and IW-HD.

Ok thanks for the info, will look further at those specs. I may return the Lite I purchased for one of these.

How many devices do you have, not sure some of my sons older laptops would be 5ghz compatible

Normally
4 smart phones
2 iPads
2 smart TV’s
3 laptops
2 amazon echos
1 PS4, the other doesn’t have 5Ghz so hard wired

Everything else is hard wired. It can sometimes be more if we have friends and family here.

Does anyone have any knowledge of what routers Vodafone Gigafast ships? I'm looking at the 500mbps package, and would really rather hook it up to my ubiquiti stuff.
