not really needed when a set of £80 ram will do the same job

again what from x570 do you specifically need?
msi b450 tomahawk/mortar max will suffice for 8 core ryzen 3000

that's a £200 saving right there
I hear you, don’t think there’s any gpu that can max 3.0...yet. I’m hoping to keep this for 9 years so need to future proof a little. Where’s the x470 boards? Ocuk has none

it takes two titan v in sli to max pcie 3.0 x16
same with pcie 4.0 nvme ssds...nice flashy sequential read numbers (and to a lesser extent write) but no real world gains in 99.99% of use cases

i wouldn't bother with x470. all the cheap boards are terrible - better off getting b450 instead, and all the expensive boards are nearly as expensive as the x570 equivalents

if you're definitely keeping it for 9 years then maybe x570 is not a bad idea.
if it's for 3-5 years then b450 should be sufficient

Ok guys what do you think of my revised revised basket?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £570.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)
only thin I don’t like is the location of the m.2, I like the heatsink but it sits in the hot air flow of my gpu. The second slot can’t take the heatsink. Guess I can live with that as I save £100 and lose a chipset fan.

Ram is a place holder for now, I just got to read up on a few things timing and compatibility etc

Not sure if it's been mentioned above in the thread but I think the X470 will need a BIOS update to take Ryzen 3000 series

I thought it was the B boards. I got 45mins before I miss next day delivery I have a quick google

I'm not 100% as on the product description it says only ryzen 2000 series but maybe that ones on the list as one that will accept the new CPU's...

Rather have an MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX. That Gigabyte board is pretty awful for the money. Also no need for expensive ram. The Team Group Vulcan T-Force for £62.99 if you want a cheaper option or look for Crucial Ballistix Sport LT.

I thought the ram was decent even with 8pack tax, Samsung b die. That baskets junk I’ll post up my re revised basket in a sec

That tomahawk looks ok, has dvi d but only one m.2 was planning on a 250gb for os and a xtb for games. Has mystic light so I can turn the same thing off with my msi gpu

The Ram is good, but you don't need B die. A lot of people are getting good overclocking results with Crucial Ballistix Sport LT but OCUK don't sell it.

The Gigabyte board is about £50 more than what it should be imo. Has a pretty weak VRM.

What you think about the strix gaming -f

I like boards that are covered like my z77 sabertooth
