Two people, who police described as armed, seized control of the ambulance at 12.30pm on Tuesday and then raced it through the streets of the northern Torshov district for fifteen minutes until they were finally stopped by police.
According to the Dagbladet newspaper, the police fired ten shots. The ambulance then crashed into a building, after which the police smashed the windscreen and pulled a man from inside. "It was going at a crazy speed," an eyewitness told the paper.
A man in his thirties, who was previously known to police, was arrested at the scene. The woman is also known to the police.
The Oslo police announced on Twitter that they had control of the vehicle shortly after 1pm. "We are in control of an ambulance that was stolen by an armed man," they wrote. "Shots were fired to stop the perpetrator. He is not critically injured."
At shortly after 2pm, they published another statement, saying they were looking for a woman of 165cm in height, with light skin, and slightly brown hair, who was wearing a black jacket and looked intoxicated.
