Does this sound okay.

3 bay windows each with 2 openings, 2 of them need toughened glass. 2 of these bays are fairly long.

1 flat window no opening
1 flat window with side opening
1 flat window full side opening
2 flat windows top opening.

1 rock door ultimate with glass and side window.

Some Windows require lintels as well.

£6780

I'm guessing the rockdoor alone is a substantial cost.

Seems quite reasonable to me.

We have a receipt from safestyle I think and the cost was over £10,000 for just the front of our house.

That includes front door, small garage non opening window, large front room window and 2 average sized bedroom windows.

I just had 6 windows replaced, 5 of them ~1.9m x 1m and it was about £3200

This was using a local firm rather than a national one, where I imagine it could have easily been double that cost.

Not the craziest price I've ever seen. Go for independent firms.
Never deal with Safestyle. Worst company on planet.

Windows aren't particularly expensive items and there are only a limited number of manufacturers who give windows to glazing firms anyway.

Some people will try and give you all this crap about "a rated" and "diamond rated" etc. Reality is pretty much every single window manufactured is of good rating. No one is going to be selling poor quality windows cos they all need to meet certain standards.

It's a very well reviewed independent guy that lives locally.
Windows come with 10 year guarantee that's insurance backed.
He seemed to know his stuff, which windows might need lintels, telling us about requirement for a fire escape window upstairs.

For another local guy coming tomorrow for a quote see what they say.

I did think of looking up different frames and glazing units but like you say they all have to meet pretty good standards anyway.

This is the first one.

Second guy came around today, see what his quote is like.

Part of me wants to know what glass they use, what profiles, handles, everything but like some one said they're built to certain regulations so other than brand there much the same.

You could ask the glazer where he sources his windows then get the brochure online. Or if the glazer is decent enough he should be able to give you all them choices anyway.

The ones I had fitted myself this year were made by Veka. We are quite pleased with them.

Also read good things about Deceuninck, Rehau and Kommerling windows too.

This. Quite often you won't get any extra for your money, not even a badge.

I would expect to able to choose all of those options.

With the windows we just had fitted, we had the choice of profile, glass type, glass thickness, handles, interior colour, exterior colour and colour of the spacer bar between the panes.

No one so far has asked what glass type or thickness, or choice of profile.
Just colour, how many openings, child locks that sort of thing.

You've just reminded me, we also specced opening restrictors, direction of opening and all the transom or mullion sizings/position. Also whether we wanted the cills joggled or not.

The profile decides the whole look of the window, so i would expect to be able to choose that at a minimum.

We use an independent firm, they charge £1200 for a set of French Doors, a 1.5m window with one half opening cost us £600 that’s supplied and fitted. A small side window just under 1m with small top opening was £400

Two years back, the daughter paid a hefty price for Anglian Windows, they are seriously not worth the money they paid. Already they’ve had to have the front door looked at twice and their French door rattles, the rubber weather shield needs looking at again and the catch to keep them in an open position has failed

So the other quote has come back and I'm a bit shocked.

£4800 ish, don't have the exact figure on me.

I'm wondering if it's purely because this company actually make their own frames.
They use the Linair profile.

https://www.aprwindows.com/

So almost £2k cheaper.

The 6k quote uses Profile 22, so no idea of that's worth 2k over Linair.

Just to tell you how cheap this stuff is, I've just ordered a replacement panel for a window that was cracked measuring:

H: 870mm
W: 412mm
D: 24mm (4/16/4)

For C rated (U Value 1.2) they've quoted £15.95 collected from their factory. UPVC windows supplied by these national firms are incredibly profitable...i.e. they're con artists.

Profiles yes there should be Sculptured, Chamfered ect, Glass type obscure and if so what type, glass thickness only if you need or want noise reduction as all should meet standard for Doc L ( Gas filled, low e coatings, should be a 28mm unit as standard unless there sash windows there normally 24mm )
Furniture Yes, Dual colour frames can do but more expensive, colour of spacing bar strange one really not many people care about that, we normally keep them white for white windows and black for any other colour unless a customer wants something like bronze ect.

Also for toughened, All doors and any glass below 700mm should be done.

Sometime company's just give you way to many options which i'm sure is to confuse people

All should be Fensa registered and they send you a certificate in the post after the contractor has completed the works, if not your have to pay Fensa to come and test your windows if you sell your home, this guarantees ( 10 years ) there work and that the window's meet building standards.

As for the quote yup i'd say that's a bit on the high side from just a quick look I would have guess 4-5kish but without sizes hard to tell.
