So it's slow until you've always waited for things to get cached. For the first 5 mins after log-in the the OS/App HDD runs 100%
however if you choose fast HDD's
And compared to SSDs there are no fast HDDs and they're all dog slow and some just little less dog slow.
Only thing in which HDDs can somewhat compete against SATA SSDs is sequential transfers.
In random accesses and any mixed workloads SSDs are on their own planet.
If it's write endurance you're worried about, Phison E12 and Toshiba NAND drives beat Samsungs.I forgot to mention I had a Crucial M4 die also. In fairness I don't think i'm a typical user, as the SSD's were in workstation type environment and had a lot of write activity. But as said not all failed, still got 5 left that are working fine. I will go back to SSD's just need the higher end SSD's like the Samsung Pro's to come down in price.
For example 1TB 970 Pro's warranty ends at 1200TBW. (if that comes before five years)
Warranty of Corsair MP510/PNY CS3030 lasts well past 1500TBW.
And in 2.5" form factor there are 1TB class drives rated for up to 8+ petabytes...
With well cheaper than Samsung 860 Pro, Micron 5100 PRO having over tripled TBW rating.
