Had a quick check to see if there were any other threads but couldn’t see any.

We all pretty much know about the Mini’s, but has anyone invested in the Nest (Home) Hub or its bigger brother the Max?

Thinking of laying down some cashola in the next couple of months for some around the house and wanted some opinions on them...

I've got a couple of mini's, have been thinking about a Nest Hub myself so I'd be interested in hearing opinions too...

I've got the normal smaller Hub, and as much as it's nice to look at - it doesn't really do much. I'm sort of tempted by the bigger one to use in the kitchen, as I think it might be more useful - but I'm also thinking it might just sit there and look nice but not do much on the screen.

Where do you have the regular hub?

I was thinking of maybe having that in the kitchen as it could be good for looking up recipes (be more useful)...

The Max I could see in the living room for photos and Duo calls.

I've got it in my office, if I get a nest doorbell it might be more useful to see who's art the door.

I've tried looking up recipes on it before and it's a bit useless. It would be better if I could send a web page to it

That’s disappointing to hear. Might just be best suited as a bedside device then..

Are all of these devices used for central heating? Does the Nest replace the heating console or is it an extra? I'm looking at going 'smart' at some point soon, and I wonder if you guys know if much is needed to be done with the set-up I currently have?

My existing heating console is a Drayton LP522 and my boiler is a Potterton Profile 30E. The boiler is 28 years old and I've been told not to replace it because they don't make boilers like they used to!

So definitely looking like I'm going to pick up one of the regular Nest Hubs - will try and get a decent deal on one over Black Friday.

Consensus is that even using the iOS app it shouldn't cause too many issues bar Music, but I'd have YouTube music for the Google side of things.

You replace the timer and thermostat, that Potterton boiler should be fine. Funnily enough we had a similar boiler in our old house but we wanted to get a combi boiler and knock the the bathroom into the old airing cupboard so replaced it.

Off topic but that Potterton is superb. We had one for 29yrs and it was flawless but as above we really needed to move to a combi in order to save on heating costs and the difference on our bills was absolutely huge. Ended up with a Valiant that we had installed in 2012. It is true that boilers aren't made to last anymore.

I am on the fence about these google products. I am not their biggest fan anymore and my G.Home has been a pos since the day I bought it. Lately it claims there is no wifi network to connect to when there is, so I have to factory reset the sod to rectify it. This takes a good 5mins of my time (rediscovery, setting up etc).
