Hey guys, looking at spending max £2750 to include a 4k g-sync monitor, i'll list what I'm looking at and if any could advise what they'd get or changes they'd make that'd be great. Keen to get ordered today :)

Some things to note* I DO want RGB Memory and AIO CPU Cooler. I also want an AOI Graphics card but they don't have the Seahawk X 2080 Super here so that one component will be bought elsewhere, but added a 2080 Super standard anyway to show choice unless anyone recommends a different card?

Let me know if you guys recommend any changes and or additions if i've missed anything?

Hi

A few things I would change.

The 3800X isn't worth the extra over the 3700X.

That MSI board isn't that good for £190. I would say either go with a cheaper option like the B450 Tomahawk MAX or get a better X570 board.

Not a fan of Hybrid gpu's as they are usually more expensive than a good air cooled version. I would take a Gigabyte Gaming OC for the 4 year warranty. Also the difference in performance between a 2080 and 2080 Super isn't that much, but the price difference can be quite large.

Case is personal pref. I would look at the CoolerMaster H500 though as you are going with a CoolerMaster AIO. You get 2 x 200mm RGB fans in the front.

You can go with the 650W version of that psu.

I would go with a set of G.Skill Trident Z RGB if you want RGB Ram. The 3200MHz kit is £99.95 on here.

If you go with the CoolerMaster case then you wouldn't need the additional fans.

Not a fan of 4K 60Hz. I would rather have a 1440p 120Hz/144Hz etc. Much easier to run as well especially if not going with a 2080 ti.

Noted on the CPU, thanks, will change to the 3700X unless Intel have a better alternative?

Re: Motherboard. I wanted a board with WiFi hence the choice plus it has 5 star reviews in the shop? What's not great about it and what would you change to that has WiFi?

The CoolerMaster H500 is a fine case, but is there much difference other than personal preference on looks? The Corsair 570X has 3 120mm RGB fans included rather than the 2 x 200mm on the CM.

The one additional fan I chose was to throw on the AIO on the graphics card I was going to buy elsewhere. I know they cost a bit more but for me it's worth it for the quiet. I hate GPU fans and no point going AIO on the CPU if not for the graphics card too.

As for the monitor (this build is not for me, I built my rig a couple years ago when the 1080ti come out and chose the UW Predator X34A and love it) but I thought with the power the 3700/3800X and a 2080 whether super or ti puts out then 4k 60Hz should be a breeze on anything surely? I could change up to UW if you have any recommendations but would have to fit in the budget and have G-Sync.

Appreciate any further input.

The VRM on cheap MSI boards is bad, leading to potential temperature problems.

You’re better off with the ASUS TUF gaming at your budget.

For 4k, you want the Acer Nitro 4K. And the Sabrent Rocket M2 drive (from elsewhere) is highly recommended. Some of your other components seem expensive - do you really want to spend that much on a case?

Try the below and add a Sabrent Rocket and a case. You could upgrade to a 570 motherboard.

Intel have more expensive alternatives. The value for money option is definitely Ryzen.

You could always add a wifi adapter to the Tomahawk board. If you want one with built in then there is the B450 Gaming Pro Carbon, although you would need to update the bios on that for it to work using bios flashback. On X570 the Asus X570 TUF wifi is a better board than the Gaming edge.

Nothing wrong with the 570X but there are lots of good cases at or around that price point. Also if you went with the CoolerMaster case then all the RGB fans should sync up. With the Corsair you will have the mix of Corsair RGB fans and CoolerMaster RGB fans.

For 4K you want as much gpu power as possible. A 2080 Super would run games at that resolution but you might need to lower some settings depending on the game. A 1440p monitor or UW 1440p is less taxing on the gpu. Also there is no need to buy a G-Sync monitor anymore now that a lot of Freesync monitors support Nvidia.

This Asus one for example:

Nice build, I would recommend you go for the 3700x over the 3800x as it provides almost identical performance for less money.

Also are you sure about the monitor? At that size you cant tell the difference between 1440p and 4k, they'll look identical - but the 4k monitor is only 60hz. You might be better off going for a 1440p monitor with a 144hz display for smoothness

That’s not true at all; my daily is a PB278Q and I bought a 4K60 monitor to try, and could absolutely tell the difference between the two, even in games. I kept the PB278Q as it was less taxing on GPU.

Oh really? Fair enough then I must be mistaken. In all honesty, I did always believe that higher clarity monitors even at smaller sizes you would still be able to tell a difference but people were always telling me that you cant see a difference at a size that small so I guess i kind of believed it.

Not on a 28" screen

You do realise I have both the Acer Nitro 4k monitor and an Asus 34" 3440 x 1440 UW monitor right in front of me right now? Both are high refresh monitors. Both have the same physical vertical height. Both are calibrated and the Nitro is definitely the nicer monitor.

Thanks for all the input guys, taking it all onboard.

I'm going back and forth on this dilemma if anyone can help:

Option 1) spend more than I wanted and get a 2080Ti + Acer Nitro 4k 144Hz Monitor Quartz linked (i'm not sure a 2080 super will do enough for a 144Hz 4k monitor??)

Option 2) come in under budget but get a 2080 Super and a 1440p UW Monitor such as the Predator X34P or the AOC AGON AG352UCG6

Any thoughts? - if option 2, which is the best 1440p monitor to go for?

Even a 2080 Ti is not going to drive an AAA game at 4K at 144 fps at max settings. The good thing is, though, that you don't need to run at max settings. Especially if you enable RTX. Thanks to GSync and Freesync, you have the choice of 144 Hz or max settings. You can run AAA games at near-max settings at more than 60 fps and older games will get 144 fps. And next year's GPUs will be even faster.

Oh yeah I get that. I can go over budget if needs be, but I'm thinking, why not just save some cash and get the 2080 super and a 1440p UW.

Probably the better option. Then I have no experience with 4k gaming to know if its truly worth it.

How would a 2080 Super do on that 4k monitor?

Also any recommendations on a WiFi board and a seperate WiFi adapter so I can weigh up some options there?

The only decent WiFi board I am seeing is over £200 which is a fair whack over the tomahawk one you linked.
