So to start off here are my current Specs...

Asus GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Dual EVO OC 8192MB (just upgraded from Asus Strix GTX 980, GTX 770 before that)

Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor

Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz

Corsair RM 750W Fully Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply

I recently bought a RTX 2070 super as I knew I would be looking to upgrade my system pretty soon and I’m now ready for that upgrade but I’m trying to work out what exactly I should upgrade to.

I mostly use my PC for gaming, currently on an Acer 1080p 144Hz G-Sync monitor and also stream my games to a 4k TV in my living room using my Nvidia Shield TV with Game streaming.

I also an artist and do quite a lot of photography, photo editing with photoshop and some very light video editing so I’m always using those types of tools.

My system has done me well up until and till now, and to be honest I haven’t found it a problem at all, everything still seems snappy and fast in every day to day use, but obviously when it comes to gaming with the RTX 2070 I know my CPU and motherboard is going to be holding it back.

I’m looking for a new CPU, Motherboard and RAM. I’m hoping my PSU will still be enough along with my case and existing fans for now, although I may look at a new case if there is still enough money left in my budget which is around the £1000 mark.

For the CPU I’ve been looking at i7-9700K or i9-9900K but I know hyper threading is only available on the i9? Does that even make a difference?

I know that AMD Ryzen are also currently supposed to be good (or better?) but I have no idea about AMD CPU’s as I’ve never looked into them before or the motherboards so I have no clue on that side.

So I ‘m wondering if someone can help spec me some components please that will work well together and get me the best performance bang for my buck.

All your advice is gratefully appreciated :)

I was going to buy an i7 9700k but am now persuaded to go AMD. Initially looking at the 3600 and Tomahawk Max but now going the extra for a 3700x and Gigabyte Aorus Elite mobo with Crucial ddr3200 cl16 memory, dark rock 4 cooler and a corsair mp510 480gb ssd.

Thank you, those all look good...I was initially unsure about what brand mobo to go for but I think I got in narrowed down.

Would you say there is much difference between the Gigabyte Z390's Aorus Pro and the Aorus Master? Is it worth the £80 price difference?

I've been reading up on AMD's Ryzen as I've kinda been out of the loop in regards to the latest tech, so I now also have my eye on the Ryzen 3900X

and I was also looking at the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro

Would you say there is much difference going for the AMD option instead Intel? AMD will be the more expensive option but I don't mind stretching my budget a little more. If I'm going to spend this I want to make an informed decision and don't plan on upgrading for a long time so I want to get it right...even though my finger is itching to press that add to cart button xD

AMD X570 boards have PCI-Express version 4 which right now, the only thing that would use that is certain M.2 NVME SSD's. PCI-E Graphics cards, no idea what is planned but I'd keep that in mind.

As for the Intel Z390 Board comparison, Have a look here.

I'm neither an AMD or Intel Fanboy (I've built many AMD or Intel rigs over the years) I buy what I think is right for me. There's lots of reviews on both the 9900K & 3900X out there, have a look at how both CPU's handle the tasks you will be asking of them. Right now in my opinion pricewise the 9900K is the better buy at £120 less if you don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. AMD on the other hand, X570 may well be able to accept 4th Generation Ryzen next year, which could turn out to be a 9900K killer.

Your choice at the end of the day.

Well I took you advice and bought the i9 and Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro, and Ram, and I also got myself a new case too!
It's taken me two days to get everything set up and running but best of all I didn't even have to reinstall windows.

Just testing out a few games now and everything is buttery smooth and great! Even on normal tasks I can feel the difference in speed and snappiness in my system.
Before my CPU usage was always high just doing normal tasks but now it's only at 2% most of the time :D

A very happy chappie here...thank you for all you help :D
