Newsagents: yes. Boots: yes. Boots even used to have a MegaDrive that you could play. Almost completed Sonic 2 in Boots before I was able to buy it for myself

Petrol stations? As a kid I only remember what they sold on the top shelf

The only thing I remember petrol stations having was Green Shield stamps - I saved enough to have a complete Gorden 1/2" socket set and petrol was 7/6p a "Gallon" - That was still expensive as I was only on £2.10s a week.

i never got any i seem to remember my dad had a company car at the time and he could only get fuel from one brand, like a shell fuel card or smth like that, i dont remember what brand but it wasnt National
