Hey,

Could anyone please reccomend the best insurance companies / brokers for modified car insurance with like for like part cover in the UK? I am 25 Y/O with 5 years no claims

Adrian Flux are coming back with silly prices!

I have heard of, Sky Insurance, Brent Acre, and Green Flag. Is there any one else worth a look?

Thanks!

I switch between Greenlight and Skyinsurance mostly, whichever gives the best price at the time.

Greenlight has a much better service though. They also throw in more stuff for free (like legal protection).

aplan worth a call, been good for me on my s2k.

greenlight are very picky, do not insure bmws etc but are good if you do get through them.

Be useful to know the car as Greenlight won't insure BMWs for example

I understand why they don't, but I was unhappy having to leave them when I bought mine. They'd been brilliant since I first went with them for my ST, could sit on the phone for a while just chatting about the car, mod route, future plans etc.

Lv came in cheapest this year, ensure were similar but hefty administration fees for green card and amendments. Lv have no administration fees.

The number of mods is quite a big factor when running quotes through comparison sites, sometimes moreso than the actual power increase.

when I tried them they would only allow me 5 mods I think, also only an increase of a certain percentage of power over standard, they were quite picky. I went with Keith Michaels because I have spoken to the same guy 4 years running, I told them everything about the car then he went away and found the best policy, which was cheaper than LV with only declaring certain things.

Try ERS Insurance. I got a quote from them via but then spoke to them direct and got a cheaper price.

On my policy cosmetic mods are listed but don't affect premium, power mods I'm allowed a 25% increase over standard before it affects price & my big brake kit reduced the premium as it's "improved safety of the vehicle"

I've been using Sky for a few years. My car has a total conversion with hardly any standard parts on it now so having limited mods would never work. Neither would a declared power increase as even when totally unmodified the replacement engine is twice the power and torque as the original. Never stopped them providing a policy though.

For future browsers, Greenlight are again awesome.

Super nice on the phone, easy to talk to and less insurancy than most insurance companies. As in, they speak to you like a person.

Used Adrian flux before and was fine. But disappointed when changing cars. Usually owner's club have a member or at least a good deal waiting. Worthy checking.

I'm with Sky insurance with my modified Astra, engine conversion at 400bhp declared along with everything else and they were about £500 last year I believe.

Adrian flux had a few issues with them, one being I rang to cancel renewal, they didn't cancel and took the money. Then wanted the £80 or whatever to cancel it and refused to believe I'd rang to cancel it as nothing in record. Eventually they found the recording of my phone call and cancelled the policy.

The vast majority of policies found on comparison websites are no good for modified cars. Most standard policies don't actually cover the value of the modifications. If you have a crash, they will only cover the cost of replacement with OEM components.

Admiral for example:

You will find that most "standard" policies have wording similar to this.

If its a modified car thats worth more than peanuts then you need like for like modification cover and agreed value.
