I've gone to the (BMW) dark side... but...

Just a final update for anyone who cares (i.e. nobody :D). I took delivery yesterday and I'm very happy with my choice. I was a little ambivalent towards the whole 'drug dealer black' theme (paint, plastics/arches, alloys) but it looks very smart indeed in the flesh, and I definitely prefer it over the silver wheels. They should be a little easier to keep looking clean also. Even fresh from the factory it's a very nice drive, so once it's run in no doubt I'll really enjoy it. We've had rain all day so it's not been cleaned, clayed and waxed yet. Oh for a carport or large garage. Hopefully next weekend cools down and dries up a bit. :p

The factory must have updated the config (LCI?) between order and delivery, as when I ordered it iDrive was listed as 6" with an optional upgrade to the full size Pro nav. On delivery however I have the full size unit with widescreen, which was a pleasant surprise as it looks infinitely better (and is more usable) imo. Brace yourselves for posts about the quality feel of the switch gear (I lol'd when I read Fox's post at the time - but it turns out it's true!).

I thought it was just black with grey alloys, not blacked out everything. :(

Prepare for them to be brown :p

You forgot pics ;)

It's a black X2, same as the others lol. I didn't think anyone would be interested, but if you want to see a couple of snaps I'm sure I can sort something.

There will be absolutely nothing about keeping a car where everything is black clean that's easy :p

Soft99 Fusso to the rescue. It's practically reality proof, never mind waterproof. It's been my go-to for some time now, and works on wheels as well as bodywork. I got over 12 months out of it on my Superb before it started flagging and needed reapplying, and the car just never got dirty. Fantastic gear tbf.

Yes, the screen size was increased to the same one used higher up the range. BMW mentioned it when I test drove an X2 M35i over the summer, but they weren't sure when it would be introduced. I guess it has been now :p

Because I have better things to do with my time?

Presumably you have better things to do with your time than wash your clothes or vacuum your living room too, but I'd imagine you do those things. After a couple of weeks in winter your car ends up at the point where you get dirty hands just opening the boot, its a nuisance and a good reason to keep it neat and clean.

Even worse on cars with protruding sideskirts, constantly ended up brushing the dirt off the side of a G05 X5 onto our clothing getting in and out until it got to the point I had to jetwash it..

We have a cleaner that does the stuff in the house and I have an auto open (kick under bumper or press button on fob) and auto close boot (press button inside boot lid) so no dirty hands ;):p

This. Hand washing a car is basically a whole afternoon.

I take my Audi to the car wash, so that gets cleaned when it needs to.
I paid a small fortune to get the Golf detailed when I bought it, and being black, I only ever hand wash it as I don't want it trashed by a car wash. Unfortunately, I have two small children and I can't just ignore them for a whole afternoon to wash the car. (and they can FO when I'm washing it as I don't want them to touch it!) Thus, I often drive around in a dirty car and end up with grubby trousers where they rub against the sill :(
At least I'm not one of those heathens who leave hand prints on the boot lid
Use the grab handles people!!!!
