Afternoon all

I've been getting by with my macbook for a while (not gaming) so am about to build a new, but budget, gaming PC.

Only games in the house we really play are Minecraft, Football Manager and a few other random steam titles, Darkest Dungeon and Motorsport manager.

I only have £500 to spend, don't need monitor, windows or a case (I have a mini itx Sharkoon case from a while ago that I want to use).

So, question is, will the 3400g be a good performer for the games above in that budget - or would you all strongly recommend separate graphics card?

Thanks again

Yeah totally worth it if your on a smaller budget, you may get better performance if you went the 2nd hand market, that way youll probably get a dedicated GPU

This is a rough price guide for second hand parts, the prices ive put are quite close to new on some of the bits but the CPU and GPU is based on used prices recently

Ryzen 2600 - £90
B450 Motherboard- £90
16gb RAM - £50
RX570 - £100
PSU 550w - £60
SSD 500gb - £60

Then choose a case to your liking, the above components is what id consider if i was going used.

Yeah this is the perpetual debate in my head, I suppose if I went 3400g as a start I could add a card later. Tough decision, I'm not always 100% comfortable buying second hand, hard to know who to buy from.

I know what you mean, I usually go new on parts 9 times out of 10 otherwise you could pay for bits and recieve completely different parts... The 3400g performs great for Integrated GPU, there are plenty of videos on YouTube showing its performance...

Only thing that bumps the price up is ITX boards, Ive had a couple of ITX builds in the past and the boards are always a few extra £££ compared to MATX and ATX size

Yeah, on that budget I just don't see how I can better it (other than second hand). I can see how the graphics perform and add a card later if needed, and I know the CPU performance isn't as good as I could get for the same money, but seems if I needed to next year I could upgrade to the 3600 if needed.

Yeah new parts it will probably your best bet... Like you say, at a later date you can add a dedicated GPU, once you've then got a solid GPU then drop in a stronger CPU

oo i agree my 1080 was months of saving as a student who works only weekends

but on the 3400G they used the old Zen architecture ;) its the same chip

Takes me ages to save because I get distracted by other things :p ohhh I didn't know it was the same chip, cheeky :)
