I'm guessing something to do with your exhaust / particulate filter.

Probably due a service / top up of some fluid.

This was a thought and someone at my work said similar. She does less than 2 miles each way to work

Yep, thats a surefire way of clogging up a particulate filter.

That's never good for a car long-term, the engine won't even have got warm, so it's at maximum wear. Drive it up the motorway at speed for an hour, and you'll feel the difference. Watch out for draining the battery if you're running it in winter with everything on, but only a couple of miles each way to charge the battery.

If you're reasonably fit, you could walk a couple of miles in less than half an hour.

It will be the particulate filter no doubt... hash the 4x out of it on the local bypass for a while and start doing longer trips or it could end up a lot of £££s.
