Do any of you pay attention to the nutritional labels? I saw this article today, and to be honest I think it's a stupid idea. I do pay attention to the labels, and one thing that annoys me is how misleading they are permitted to be. Example being the very item in the picture in the article... "Half this pizza provides..." Even a tin of Heinz soup provides info for half a tin, like anyone's eating half a portion!

Grrr.

There's no way people will pay any attention to that. I feel the best guide is the colour system as it lets you tell at a glance, but as stated it can only be effective if it isn't manipulated the way it is presently.

It's usually done on portions or the default "per 100g". There are two servings/portions in a 400g can of Heinz soup.

Generally speaking, I tend to read the labels so I know what I'm eating.

My guess is if anyone is actually reading the nutritional info labels on food then it's hardly going to be misleading when it says in black and white what the portion size is for the information it's providing.

It's quite straight forward personally.

Surely this new idea of the exercise symbol is just wrong. Given that people have different metabolism?

It wont help in the slightest to tackle the obesity crisis.

I don't tend to buy that much ready-made food, and have a pretty good understanding of the general nutritional content of stuff thanks to being an adult for 20 years :p

I really don't consider 200g of soup to be an adult portion. Is that really what people eat?

A whole tin might be a bit much for me, especially if I have a bread roll with it. But portion sizes are of course subjective, however it will clearly say on the tin "Servings per can - 2" or something to that effect.

There are people who want to know the nutritional/dietary content/impact of their food. And there are people who don't. The ones that want to know will read the label, and the ones that don't want to know, won't.

Changing the labels won't make any difference at all. As far as I can see, anyway.

When I see portion sizes on labels I don’t take it as advice, I take it as a challenge!

Feeds 4 it says? Hmm I’m sure I could manage that and then a pudding then chocolates!

I very occasionally look at the labels to see what's really in something (e.g. whether there's loads of sugar hidden in it). Generally I just use common sense and don't eat too much crap.
The idea in the article sounds fairly pointless. Anyone who hasn't worked out what's going to make them fat by now is probably beyond help.

was buying a lot of greek whipped yogurts for afew weeks untill i saw they were 25 grams of sugar each ,old enough that i need to take care ,having said that i have at least 1 night a week where i wash a six pack of crisps down with a bottle of wine

where i wash a six pack of crisps down with a bottle of wine

I hope it's not a six pack of picked onion monster munch! Red on fat, red on salt

Best before the end of Oct 2020, manufactured in week 18 of batch Z. Clearly :D

Animal!

The whole portion thing is stupid. A Twix's traffic lights are based on only eating one bar. Who does that?

Not least as chocolate bars are about half the size they used to be (I think, unless I've just got bigger and donned the rose-tinted glasses).
