Hey all,

Looking for a log cabin in the snow somewhere in the world for a long weekend.

Not necessarily a log cabin, but a cute little, isolated place, thinking of open fire, snowy walks in the woods etc etc.

Had a look on Airbnb but without knowing where to look it's all a bit overwhelming.

Has anyone done something similar before and have any advice?

Forest Holidays is very good. Quite pricey but I've been impressed with the several different sites I've stayed at. Not completely isolated though as there will be other cabins around...

It won't be cheap at this time of year and weekends cost far more than weekday per night, but Center Parcs, if there are any vacancies available now.

3-bedroom villa midweek can be had around late March for ~£400.

I've been to Finland (Lapland) a few times near Ruka, around Christmas, it's fantastic, northern lights, Reindeer, more snow than you've probably ever seen, lots of hiking. There are lots of Log Cabins and almost all of them have wood fired saunas in.

Flights to Oulu are pretty cheap, Airbnb usually has plenty of choice, but I imagine it's a bit late to book now, but you never know!

Here's a picture of took, of 'arctic hill' where it was around minus 30 that day.

your quintessential cabin in snowy woods is best found in Scandinavia.

Scotland is put of the question, even with an average historic winter the reliable snow level is above the tree line and above the highest housing. plus such log cabins just dont exist.

The Alps will get you snow, but isolated cabins are rare, especially due to access in winter. in summer there are small shepherd huts completely isolated but you cant get there in winter, not without ski mountaineering skis and avalanche knowledge. you will find nice chalets in small villages away from the hustle of skiers. Think of a small hamlet where you night get a chalet offset from the main road.

Cheers for the replies guys!

Was more planning something potentially for next winter and wanted to get a jump start on locations etc :)

This was just what I'm after, thanks mate :D

Can i just add, i dunno how experienced you are with cold weather but, -30 degrees etc isnt a joke. Its borderline suicide to go out un or semi prepared especially in a remote location.

Ive learned that im fine up until about -15/18 then **** starts getting real. -30 to me is stay in unless you really need to go out.

Thanks for the heads up! Probably will be spending the majority of the time inside drinking wine and using a sauna to be honest! :p
