Hello,

I've been holding on building a new PC for years as my i5 2500k has been chugging along at 4.8Ghz, since the day I bought it (back in September 2011). As a result I haven't paid a huge amount of attention the the hardware market and could use some advice.

The PC is used mainly for gaming WoW, SC2, Total War (including new releases). The depands of these games arn't high but there are games coming next year I'd like to play on high settings (Empire of Sin, Cyberpunk 2077 and there should be a new Elderscrolls games too).

My current build:
Intel Core i5 2500K unlocked s
4GB MSI GTX970 GAMING PCI-E
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz
ASROCK Z68 EXTREME 4 Gen 3
CORSAIR 850W CMPSU-850AXUK (Gold rated)
250GB SSung 840 SSD
SST Fortress SST-FT02B-W
23' LG 3D W2363D

I'm currently thinking about splitting the upgrade in two, spending about £800 now on the CPU/Mobo etc and about the same again in a few months on a new monitor and GPU (I can afford to do it now but splitting it feels less psychologically painful).

So two questions:
1. My Corsair 850w PSU is awesome but it's 8 years old now (had a 7 year warranty), am I right to replace it?

2. How does my current basket look?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £806.00 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Kind regards,
Pickman

Hello,

1. I cant see why you cant reuse your current PSU, I'd replace it only if your new build has stability problems (if it aint broke dont fix it) only other reason to replace it would be for the sake of a warranty (& Corsair is pretty good for that in my experience of Corsairs RMA)

2. The Seasonic has gone up in price. Alternative (if you want to stick with Corsair & decide to buy a new PSU)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £104.89 (includes shipping: £9.90)

Thanks for your replies Grimley and Chris. With your advice in mind I've had another go at it:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £698.97 (includes shipping: £11.10)

If I could get hold of the LG monitor I'm pretty close to going the whole way:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,646.06 (includes shipping: £13.20)

Anything anyone would change or have any suggestions for a comparable monitor?

Also does anyone have any idea how long the pre-order is likely to be on the RAM?
