How do religious people explain child mortality?

There's nothing pointless about the thread. It's asking why, if there is a god, does he allow children to die. Its a fairly reasonable thing to ask the followers of a supposedly benevolent god (since the god himself apparently doesn't communicate through any normal channels)

They obviously don't care about us, or worse toy with us. After all we don't don't care about ants (lesser species)

How do people explain child mortality, especially in countries where intervention for easily preventable diseases is possible by us?

We have the capacity to fix many things wrong with this world and society but don't.
