I'm thinking about buying a 7980XE, when inquiring on one such opportunity I asked about warranty as with such an expensive (at least to someone like me) CPU, we want warranty as it's for business use. However the seller doesn't have an original receipt and was given a "warranty replacement receipt" as his first CPU died.

I have cut out the details but I wanted to know if I could use this incase I needed warranty support during the period it is covered?

I had a look on their website: https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/support/articles/000006160/services.html

What information do I need to provide?
The following information is required to process warranty requests:

I've had to use intel warranty services in the past. It's based on the information on the chip/box. Unless you have the receipt that proves you bought it at a later date.
No issues - Very fast and efficient.

So I wouldn't need to provide any other detail/proof of identity if it did pop, since Intel doesn't do transferable warranty?

If you read the whole thread it turns out that he just wasn't happy with the overclock, played the silicon lottery and lost:

Correct I'm simply not happy w my chips 4.8GHz limit. If Intel requires it I'll just try the chip intentionally to get my ITPP warranty fulfilled

IMHO he doesn't deserve an RMA

@Kitsan oh yeah that reminds me...if they ask...
EVERYTHING WAS RUN AT STOCK
If the chip (and even the ram) was run out of spec, that's grounds for an RMA refusal
