just bought new HP 27xq Quad HD 27" LCD Gaming Monitor last week, cannot get 2560x1440 resolution with HDMI cable that's supplied with the monitor. Bought a Benfei DisplayPort to DVI DVI-D Single Link 1.8M Cable, Display Port to DVI Adapter Male to Male ( https://tinyurl.com/ye6rw8xm ) to try that, the monitor still defaults back to HDMI 1920x1200 60hz. AMD Catalyst control centre is up to date but offers no 2560x1440.

Pc has a Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-HD3 mainboard with onboard graphics (Radeon 8760 HD), 8gb ram, there is an HDMI socket and a DVI-D port. mobo etc is about 4 or 5 yrs old.

In Windows 10 display the highest resolution available 1920x1200, I've uninstalled gfx driver then re-installed it with no joy, I've followed the instruction on a monitor factory reset via removing the power plug from the monitor and holding power on/off but for one full minute, still no 2560x1440 resolution. All drivers are up to date.

Anyone advise on how to get the full 2560x1440 resolution that I paid for. I'm told that my rig should be able to handle 2560x1440 with ease.

Could be a coincidence. You need a dual link DVI cable for 2560x1440/60, single link doesn't have the required bandwidth. it could be that the hdmi cable you tried was faulty as well so I would suggest trying another hdmi cable or a display port to dual link DVI cable.

If you go with hdmi, buy a Premium Certified cable. Despite the name they aren't expensive at all, but they are certified for applications that require way more bandwidth that you need so you know you'll be getting a decent cable and not some cheap nasty tat :)

You are not the only one I have found a load of posts about the same problem you are having:

There were more scattered all over the web and the ones I find where there are solutions, the solution has been buying a new GPU. The 8670D igp was released in March 2013 so I wouldn't imagine it's seeing any driver updates.
