Just had a new light fitting delivered, it’s a metal bowl style light, but appears to be a European fitting with only 2 terminal wires.

Do do I go about fitting this to a UK style ceiling rose wiring? From what I can tell it is double insulated (the 2 squares inside each other on the label), so I don’t need the Earth? How do I tell which is live and which is neutral in the terminal block? What do I do with the earth in the ceiling rose?

Thanks

Is it rated to 240v AC? just check as it might effect its double insulation rating

Live and neutral will be the same despite the type of connector, Have you got a multimeter?

The bottom pin in the holder will be the live and the screw thread will be the neutral.

Technically you dont need a earth with a double insulated ( cat 2) equipment but I've always earthed any electrical component. If there is nowhere to earth then leave the earth off. The double insulation 'Should' be enough protection against shorts.

have you got a rcd on the consumer unit?

Says it’s 220-240v.

I don’t have a multimeter sadly and the wires are shrink wrapped together so I cannot see where each go on the light fitting.

I have a rcd on the consumer unit.

Just got to figure out which terminal for the live and neutral on the block and can I just electrical tape the earth wire?

Yeah, just tape the earth.

A light bulb is designed to have the amps go into the bottom hense the big contact pad.

What colour are the wires, if black has one got like a white dotted line,?

Is it a screw in bulb? The new type of E27 and E14 lampholders have a plastic insert or shroud that prevent them becoming live. You can wire it either way, no need to check polarity or wire live to the middle.
