As the title suggests, I was hoping someone could advice on potential bottleneck issues if I were to install a 2070super on my Z97 board.
I was looking at a used 1080ti but the price of new 20170super is practically the same so I'm not certain which would be the better buy.
Current pc spec as follows-
ReVenge Gigabyte Z97
I7 4790k @ 4.8ghz
Teamgroup Vulcan orange 16gb (2x8) ddr3 2133mhz
LG 34UM95-P 34" superwide (3440x1440) 60hz monitor
2 x galax gtx980 (sli)
EVGA 1000w 80 plus gold psu

Also worth noting I'm planning on upgrading the monitor soon to a 100-144hz one depending on which one I decide on.

Thanks in advance

In some CPU intensive games there might be a slight bottleneck but at your resolution I think you will be fine.

The 2070 Super is the better buy over the 1080Ti.

Thanks for your reply- I have just this second edited my post to include a potential monitor upgrade, would the 2070super still be the better option for 3440x1440 @ 100hz+?

4.4GHZ is not much for a 4790k (better silicon than the 4770k) try for at least 4.6GHZ if you want a gain in gaming esp at 1080p and even 1440p, you would need be at 4k to remove nearly all the bottleneck (see recent review for your CPU)."

Forgive my confusion but this post is about a gpu upgrade and potential bottleneck issues. I intend to keep the cpu, also its running at 4.8 not 4.4ghz

You are basically asking about a Certain CPU (and GPU) and yes I know it is 4.8GHZ (Mobo is related to that but you asked in a funny way as its the CPU not Mobo that is the bottleneck and your GPU and Mobo are both PCI-E 3.0).

The other threads were asking basically the same in wanting to know if to upgrade (they all had 4770k's/4790k's) or not due to a bottleneck so that video will be your answer keeping your current set up for use with a 2070S.

Added to fact at 4k any bottleneck will be even less.

Ah I understand now thanks for explaining- I guess I'm just showing my ignorance there hence why I am posting here!
Could you explain what the bottleneck would get less as the resolution gets higher? That is something I was not aware of at all

The higher the RES (generally but depends on the games engine, some prefer CPU) the more it takes the heavy lifting off the CPU and on to the GPU, does not mean you run a Downclocked 1GHZ CPU with a 2080TI @ 4K though.

I think at launch the standard 2080 matched the 1080ti, but by now its probably ahead. The 2070S is pretty close.

Do you mean a 2070 super is faster then a 1080ti ?

I thought the higher model 2080 super matched a 1080ti

Yeah the 2070 Super is better than the 1080Ti. I had both and kept the Super.

You are thinking of the 2080 at launch. The 2070 Super is about the same performance as it. The 2080 Super is faster again.

Thanks

I think your right about I was thinking of the 2080 when it was released.
I remember now the 1080ti & 2080 were trading blows with each other
