Currently in the process of buying a new monitor for my new build PC (which seems tougher than I thought it would be...)

I was originally going to get a 1440p, 27", 144Hz but then I realised PS4 doesn't output in 1440p.

Has anyone here used their PS4/PS4 Pro on a 1440p monitor and could tell me how it looks?

I know it won't output at 1440p but does it look bad?

Just need to find out so I can decide on 1440p or 1080p for new monitor

If want it sharp on a 1440p monitor
I think you will need to set it to 1080p
And put up with black bars around it

Sounds rubbish - maybe I'll just get a 1080p monitor for now and worry about something better when we know more about PS5. Thanks for the input!

I know if I put the resolution to 1080p on my 1440p monitor it looks stretched and washed

Doesn't sound great which is unfortunate.

Spent so long picking a 1440p monitor, finally ordered then remembered the PS4!

Yup weird indeed as the x1x has a 1440p option
Only thing I can think of they don't care about people wanting to use a monitor and just jumped to 4k
As don't think there are 1440p televisions seems they jumped from 1080p to 4k with nothing inbetween
Guess it would need a firmware update to enable 1440p unfortunately

Yeah there are no TVs which are 1440p. There is no broadcast standard for that. There's no reason why the PS4 couldn't output at that but I guess Sony want you to buy their Bravia TVs instead of a monitor, whereas Xbox are just doing a bit of fan service.

Shame really! But it's working to be fair - I've been looking at 1080p monitors instead!

Guess it comes down to what you want most
Monitor for ps4 use
Or monitor for pc use
And personally 24 inch is as big as I like for 1080p
Love my 27 inch 1440p monitor so again personal choice but would be my choice
Depends how often you use ps4 compared to the pc possibly

Do you use your 27" with PS4? How do you find it?

I'll probably game more on the PS4, but I use my PC a lot for streaming, editing and photoshop.

I'm replacing a 7.5 year old Samsung 1080p, 120Hz monitor basically.

No don't use it for ps4
Think grandkids did it once that's why mentioned the black borders
If you have 120hz and get a 60hz by the way you will notice the difference
If you have a tn panel now and get an ips you will Really notice the difference
First time I used my ips it almost hurt my eyes it was So much more vibrant than my tn panel before it
And 27 inch screen is really useful for stuff like 2 Web pages/documents side by side but can still see full width of them
It's just big enough to allow me to split the screen into 4 equal parts for some stuff too

I currently play ps4 at 1080p on my 1440p 144hz monitor and it doesn't look all that bad but it does look a bit washed in certain games but it doesn't bother me that much.

I have this setup and it's not too bad. Tbh I'd go with 1440p purely because you'll be future proofed and the ps5 is not far around the corner.

I can't say I noticed any problems or drop in clarity when using my 1440p monitor over my 1080p TV. Though I came from an old LCD TV to a new, fully calibrated IPS monitor so it probably isn't a surprise picture quality looked good compared to my TV.

For this reason I'd say go 1440p. The PS4 isn't going to be 100% perfect but it will still look good enough but for editing and photoshop you'll be glad of the extra pixels.
