I got a mate who selling his RTX 2080ti that am thinking of buying

But am wondering if it is really to late to start throwing money at buying a 2080ti when there talk of Nvidia new 7nm cards coming out

How long do you guys think it will be before Nvidia new cards get released ?
(also how much are these new cards going to cost )

In all likelihood the new Nvidia cards won't improve performance at the same price point so if your mate has offered the card at a good price take it as it's very unlikely you will be losing out once 7nm arrives.

if you can afford to buy a 2080ti then do it, even when new models come out it doesnt make the 2080ti obsolete, doubt youd need any more performance

If you can get a 2080ti at like half the new price now, I'd jump on it for sure. I agree, I don't think the RTX3000 series would offer better performance at half a 2080ti price.

Wishing it was half the price.it more around 75%

it £700 to £800

You would need to work out what your 1080 is worth now and what it will be worth when new cards arrives same for the 2080Ti and even if its does cost you did you get use/fun out of it for X time.

As long as you have warranty. Last thing you need is to get space invaders.....

This is a major worry for me about buying a RTX2080 ti new or secondhand

New you can RMA, second hand you need to make sure you have the warranty under your name.
Someone won a RTX2070 in competition and has this issue, now trying to find how to RMA the card

Depends on what res and games you play?
The 2080ti will still be an excellent card.

I'm pretty sure the new nvidia cards will improve more so on ray tracing performance, than raw power.

It one of the main reasons why I never bought one before

Buying any 2 series card is potentially a worry, Space Invaders could appear any time and if you have no RMA you may as well scrap the card.

At 700-800 I wouldn't bother.
A 3080 should be at least as fast as a 2080Ti, and unless we're getting really screwed over it should be faster considering its a die shrink.

Do you really need a 2080ti or is it just a want? As id be very wary of going 2nd hand on something so expensive without a backup of warranty and how long is the warranty if it was transferable. Has it been oced has it been taken apart etc.

£700 for a top end 2080ti then maybe worth it if your freind would (and should) help you if issue arises. If it's a blower or boosts to 1545Mhz (or whatever bottom cards boost to) then they can be had for £900ish new now.

I dont look at 2nd hand unless it's 60% max of new price and that's if it's rare.

I've been looking at a couple of 2nd hand 4k 144Hz screen recently. They maybe 1/2 price of when new but they arent at RRp any longer so cant bring myself to break my (THE) 60% rule.

That 2080ti would give a fair boost to performance on your monitor though from your 1080.

Mmmm toughie. Depends which 2080ti it is.

Also if it is a friend he shouldnt mind a try before buy as in either go to his and test or ask if you can do it in your computer a test of some benchmarks and stress tests to see if any issues like compatibility or artifacts or temp issues or boost issues.
