Which RGB LED kit for MSI B450M Mortar Max JRGB pin header

Hello. I am a bit confused as to which RGB LED kit is compatible with the MSI B450M Mortar Max.

The MB has a JRGB pin header which provides a max 3A(12V) power supply for the up to 3 meters 5050 RGB LED strips showing single color.

So what can I plug into the motherboard? I was looking at the Phantek starter kit (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/phanteks-rgb-led-strip-starter-kit-ph-ledkt_cmbo-cm-023-pt.html)

But do I need the Phanteks rgb led adapter as well? (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/phanteks-rgb-led-adapter-cable-ca-057-pt.html).

I have read on some forums that the Phantek starter kit displays different colours to the MSI Mystic light software input and the MSI LEDS on the MB.

Can anyone confirm there is an issue and how to rectify. Assume it is the same set up on the Tomahawk etc.

Just want to get some simple LED lighting.

Huge thanks, D.

The trouble is everybody uses a custom connector to keep their strips inside their own ecosystem, and sometimes motherboard manufacturers change the order of their RGB pins to lock you into their lighting system.

To be safe, I'd go to the MSI Mystic light website and have a look through compatible products and choose form them, for example Bitfenix Alchemy 2.0 strips are Mystic Light compatible.

Phanteks kit now comes with the motherboard 4 pin adapter
But
Is jrgb aimed at 12v addressable leds?
That's different from most
As addressable leds are normally 5v headers not 12v

I built two B450 Mortar Max systems recently, they are only 12V RGB headers. There is no 5V addressable header on this board so make sure you only use 12V RGB strips.

You don't get 12V addressable on PC kit. 12V RGB is all LEDs set to the colour you want, 5V addressable is individual control for each LED.

But having plugged in a couple of Wraith Max coolers, the 12V RGB is the standard PC 12V colour-changing affair.

Yeah that's what I thought
But asked just in case there was something new I didn't know about
And jrgb is somewhat confusing why they stick j on it?

I have no idea what the J is about, but it's on all of the headers. JRGB1, JRGB2, JFP1, JFP2, JAUD, etc., etc. Might be a Taiwanese thing calling these things "jumpers" or "junctions".

Hi, thanks for the replies.

Looking on MSI website, the following kits are mentioned:
http://www.reeven.com/twila-rgb - I can’t find a UK stockist for this kit.

Or https://www.bitfenix.com/products/led/alchemy-2-0-magnetic-rgb-led-pack-40cmx2/

I am confused if say this kit from OcUK is the same thing: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/bitf...onnect-15-led-strip-30cm-green-cm-241-bx.html - What does the green mean? It only displays a green colour? The kit above (rgb pack) says it can display 7 different colours?

I just want some compatible led strips (say x2 30-40cm long) which will plug into the JRGB header and I can change the colour to sync and match the leds on the MB with the Mystic software. I am content with a static all the same colour display.

If any can shine a light (pun intended) on what I should do, please advise!

I feel in the dark on the choices :D

Yes if says green or red or blue etc
It's single colour not rgb
Not sure what the problem would be with phanteks stripes to be honest
Mine are great
Maybe they mean for example the red is a different shade of red or something?

I did! And those are the same type (i.e. 7 colours not single colour) as https://www.bitfenix.com/products/led/alchemy-2-0-magnetic-rgb-led-pack-40cmx2/ . The only issue is I need two strips of 30-40cm for my case set up rather than a single strip.

Thank you for pointing them out. I think I will take a chance with bitfenix kit over the phanteks. I will report back to say if they worked as intended, so anyone else asking a similar question can get a definitive answer.

You can find that twin 40cm kit if you Google. I won't link here because of competitors and forums rules, but that kit can be had elsewhere

Did you ever get this working? I have an existing B450M that I want to add RGB to and a new build in process. Need to know if Bitfenix will work?

I'm using an Alaska led strip with my B450 Mortar Max
AKASA AK-LD05-50RB
And
Akasa AK-CBLD01-20BK 20 cm Extension Cable
