I here a lot of people say good things about the MSI B450 Tomahawk.

Will the 3600MHz 8 Pack ram work at DOCP on this board?

I see it says on the product page you can achieve speeds of 3466MHz with overclocking

I have the B450 Tomahawk and run my memory at 3866Mhz with a first generation Ryzen so you should be fine.

yes the 8 pack RAM should work for a 3rd gen Ryzen - see my post above that claims to be OK up to 4133mhz for 3rd gen Ryzen

what cpu do you have?

I have the tomahawk and my 8 pack 3200/14 kit happily runs at 3800/16. I actually managed to get tighter timings stable than my brother with his 3600/16 8pack kit on the x570 taichi.

I too have 8 pack 3200mhz 14-14-14-31 - and I was thinking about changing it to run at 3600mhz - presumably do I just change the cas timings to 16-16-16-36 in the bios and tell it to run at 3600mhz?

I am no expert on overclocking, but the Ryzen dram calculator makes it a lot easier.

Slight issue with that video that isn't explained besides the comment section. Do NOT under any circumstances press the Purple R-XMP button like he does (at 5:12 in the video). You should instead press "Import XMP Profile" and choose the HTML file you created with Taiphoon as it's much more akin to what your RAM can actually do. You will notice the timings in bottom left that 2 or 3 of them changes between the R-XMP button and "Import XMP Profle". Besides that the video is good enough

So the Tomahawk mobo a 3600x and the 8 pack 3600MHz ram should run with no issues using DOCP?

I'm speccing this for a non technical friend. He needs simple plug and play.

Can the Ryzen 3600x do an FCLK of 1800MHz? Or is he better off with the 3200MHz ram?

Almost all ryzen 3rd gen will do 1800 FCLK with lucky ones going up to 1900.

yes I am quite sure the ryzen 3600x can do a FCLK of 1800mhz (and hence use 3600 MHz memory well)

Yes. That's what I have done with mine.
will give that a go first ie. change memory in the bios from running at 3200mhz at cas 14-14-14-31 to 16-16-16-36 at 3600mhz.

then do you know how I could reduce the CAS? ie. do I slowly reduce to 15-16-16-36 and then to say 15-15-16-36 and then to say 15-15-15-36 etc and then testing using AIDA64 and upping the voltage if needed up to 1.40 v?

I had no luck mate. None at all. I can only say that the 3200MHz 8 pack ram will run 3600MHz timings no issues
