Received my Gigabyte 2080 Super Gaming OC today and on desktop, beautiful and silent.

Spin up a game, and any FPS around 60 and above and this happens..

(Genuinely even does sound louder IRL than in the videos, especially coming through the top grill of my case.)

Changes pitch and intensity as the framerate increases so definitely a nice batch of coil whine.

I know a lot of cards have it a bit, but I can hear this pretty clearly even outside of the case when it's all closed up and under the desk. And tricky coming from my 1080 which literally had zero whine at all.

This is excessive whine right?

Agreed sounds very excessive, especially if it is at 60hz. Usually they buzz like that at high refresh rate.

However every card I’ve had over the last few years has had it to some degree. Some better, some worse. Usually the better ones being those with custom chokes and vrms.

One of the reasons my pc in in my wall cupboard now as it cannot be heard at all under any circumstance. Before it was just unbearable in games.

Return it. Ive been lucky enough over the years that Ive only had two cards that did it and both were the same model of 7970. Both were returned to OCUK that dealt with it quick and without comment, further cementing the reason I buy GPU's from nowhere else!

Definitely return that.
In passing you know this is one good reason to buy from trusted suppliers who will actually take the card back! '..And avoid ebay like the plague.

My Vegas worse, maybe that's why it was a returned B Card

Worse than that and you are soldiering on - absolute hero. I had a vega once that would just randomly Chirp, no rhyme or reason just every now and again would give out a loud chirping noise. Never did it under any sort of repeatable conditions but you could be sitting there and all of a sudden "BRRRR" then you might not hear it for weeks and all of a sudden there it is again. Would only ever do it once in a while and tbh I quite liked it, gave the little card some character.

Yeah that's pretty bad I couldn't live with it. I've been lucky with all my cards, only my current v56 has coil whine when a game is at 500+ FPS in the menu but now I just use rtss and limit everything to 145fps
