Which 2080 / 2080 ti would you recommend ?

Maybe offer him £850 instead? If you don’t ask...

I think it’s a better card than the Strix OC.

Ive had the same model for my last two cards now I liked the 1080ti version so much!

I got Palit game rock 1080ti and it was whisper quiet and a rock solid performer so I sold it and got the same model/style 2080ti and love it just as much. Ive not heard a peep from it and it handles 4k great

If he gets it VAT free then get the 2080Ti for £900 new and be done with it. Quit faffing about. You have the money so get it.

I am in the same boat as you where I mostly play on a 4k sony tv with a gamepad. I have a 1080ti and even though some games are as low as 45fps in 4k maxed I do not feel it solely due to the fact I use a gamepad. (I guess I'm used to consoles with 30fps). I've experienced that range with keyboard and mouse before and you definitely do feel it with that.

2070 super is probably very similar experience to my 1080ti. You can probably live it out with a 2070 super, small change without the VAT, then go big when the 3080ti comes out.

I've got the Gigabyte Gaming OC model 2080ti and the fans are very loud. I don't have another 2080ti to compare it with, but it's so much louder than the MSI Twin Fan 980ti I had previously.

I would therefore not recommend the model I have.
