First time start up advice

So I've booted up my new system and its on a blank screen listing the processor, ram details, USB, SATA detected devices etc. I have the option to F1 run setup or F2 load defaults and continue. What's recommended at this point to do?

Just to clarify can anyone point to the order in which to install windows/motherboard drivers or just the general run of things after first switch on as I am not finding anything concrete on line nor is the MSI manual clear for the B450 carbon pro

I'll also as I have a SN500 NVMe AND 5600 XT installed but neither is listed on this screen. A concern or no? My thought is I need to enter the BIOs to enable the m.2?

First thing i usually do is go into bios and check to make sure everything i installed is detected. The bios will tell you everything you need to know, look through all the options to see if things are being detected. On some boards, the NVME drives need to be set to detect but again have a look through the bios to make sure. Also depending on how you've installed your hard drives and nvme drive, it maybe that installing the nvme in a certain slot will take up the bandwidth of certain sata slots as well so something to look out for. After that, power down and install windows or whatever platform you're going to be using.

If you're installing windows 10, it will automatically install the correct chipset drivers for your board. No need to go hunting for them. The only drivers you need to install manually are your graphics drivers which i would go direct to the vendors home page to download and install.

Thanks for the clarity does it mean it take the F2 to load the defaults then enter the bios after that's set?
 
Actually, if you have an AMD chipset (which you do), you need to obtain the chipset driver and best to do so from AMD directly. Other than that, install only the motherboard drivers/utilities that you want, and AMD Software for your 5600 XT.

After you install Windows, go back into the BIOS and enable XMP for the memory to run at its rated speed.

Does that mean I'll need to create a usb for the chipset driver pre operating system install? I had thought the msi disc had the chipset drivers on it, but perhaps not? So I'm reading it as at the moment

3/ install motherboard disc and drivers/utilities
4/ install windows 10 ( have disc)
5/ after re-boot download latest GPU drivers from and directly

Step 4 download chipset driver from link I gave you, graphics driver from link I gave you, and any other drivers/utilities on the motherboard's webpage that you actually want (you can safely ignore the rest). Poor planning so I don't have a usb or disc available today to download the chipset and motherboard drivers to. I'm tempted to use the disc today (assuming it has the chipset driver of any description on it?) and do a round of updates once setups are complete.

The rest makes sense

I don't follow. Do you not have internet? All you need to do is install Windows, have access to internet, then download those drivers to your SSD, and install them.

I was under the impression it needed done prior to the operating system. I stand corrected

After 1/ it's actually done a reboot itself after I selected default values setup and presents a screen now saying select boot device or insert boot media and select a key. however it's not giving the option to go into the bios to enable the m.2. F2 and DEL just results in the message repeating down the screen.

Okay we're on same page now. :)

Reboot and spam the DEL key, especially when you see any keyboard and/or monitor light flash on. That'll take you into the BIOS, preventing that message from appearing. Might take you a few tries as it's your first time. It's a fun game.

Don't think it'll be an issue. Perhaps later on it'll be able to identify it.

No, the default options should be fine for now. You can come back to those later if need be.

That works for me. YMMV depending on board/drive. Any issues choose UEFI only.
