Hi,

My current monitor a Philips 436M6VBPAB is ok for gaming; but the text display in Windows 10 and when I am RDP'ed to another machine is terrible. I have spent around 6 hours tweaking the settings for both SDR and HDR in Windows 10; and am somewhat underwhelmed with this monitor. Maybe for this size of monitor I am sitting a little too close at 1.1m. I have got G-sync working on my current monitor; i appreciate the adaptive sync is only between 48 and 60.

I was thinking about the following monitor;
ASUS ROG Strix XG43VQ
(overclockers have it on at a very good price https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...qljEvyD_dO_mvkTZ_3lDcAS49J2XVA08aArdBEALw_wcB)

but will its vertical resolution (1200 pixels) be noticeable?

My PC; is a custom PC from overclockers i recently spec'ed and had built
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
MB: Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO (AMD AM4) DDR4 X570 Chipset ATX Motherboard
Memory: Team Group Night Hawk RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz
Graphics: Asus GeForce RTX 2080 Super EVO OC 8192MB

Before I spend so much money on a monitor, i would like your advice please, or am better off sticking with my current Philips Momentum monitor?

I sit around 1.1m away from my screen surface.

I am after a monitor no wider then 1.060m that has clear text in windows 10 - that is the width limitation between the chimney breast and wall where the desk is.

Please can you help me on choosing a new monitor, or if I should keep with my philips and recommend me some SDR \ HDR settings?

thank you for your expert advice.

First review i looked at of this monitor
https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/philips_436m6vbpab.htm#conclusion
CONS
Not ideal for close up PC use due to text fringing and static dithering artefacts

For other uses besides distant console gaming viewing we felt the screen struggled.
The main issue was with the clarity of text, where the unusual pixel structure caused fringing and blurring to appear from close range.
The static dithering-like artefacts visible close up on some colours was also annoying.

Many thanks for all your replies and help.
yep; i have now ruled out the XG43VQ due to its 1200 vertical resolution.
re: my current Philips 436M6* monitor ; I am running it at Native resolution - 3840 x 2160 (native); colour depth (32-bit) output colour depth - 10-bpc; output colour format : RGB; Output Dynamic Range : Full.

thanks Chaparral; that review from tftcentral.co.uk; Cons is exactly what I am seeing.
tried both SDR and HDR; HDR is too washed out; even with changing the vibrance to 70% to compensate.
that is why I want a monitor that is good for gaming (FPS in particular) and good for desktop use (text)
