So got a bit stumped by this one, which I think is a misprint but not willing to risk a £500+ mobo

In the docs that comes with the board it shows the power headers for the board like this...

with the 12v pins being next to the connector.

I thought - 6pin has to be pcie, but the pin out for the Corsair AX1600i shows the 12v pins on the other side of the connector...

Tried calling Asus support no way to get through to a human. No response from them to my email.

Anyone here got this board powered up with the 6 pin connected?

Any help would be appreciated as I am about to fit all the hard pipes for the watercooling and need to route all the cables.

@M0rphine Gigabyte is the only one to have solid UK support with forum rep on here . Asus really lacking on that part !

6 pin if i recall if to provide extra power to PCIe lanes when 3+ cards are being used . Should be a 6 pin PCI cable you use on GPUs that would go in there

depending on what CPU your using and the overclock/Workloads your doing , you'd only need D and C plugged in, B if you've got flagship CPU installed and HEAVY OC

I want to get as much power as possible to the 10980XE to see what I can get out of it, gone mad with the cooling so it would be made to be held back on account of power connectors not being in place. It's the same for the 2080Tis and the AX1600i should be able to supply more than enough juice as long as everything is connected.

So either way, I would like to get it all hooked up. If I hadn't seen the manual which shows the pin layout reversed to what I would expect, I would have just stuck a Pcie 6pin in it, (which fits by the way,) and powered it up.

aye... both 8 pins then !!!!!

as your not multirail and dont using 3 plus cards, dont think 6 pin will effects PCie lanes to much- but must look ace!
 
It is the "6-pin EZ_PLUG Power connector" which accepts a PCI-E power connector.

The manual is just printed incorrectly.

Think about it. What other 6 pin power connectors are there? And the keyed pins fit...

Thats where I am ending up as I can't find any posts or anything by anyone who has a board with that header connected.

I hope it's going to look good, first-time hard piping anything. In fact, the last time I did anything custom watercooled was using pond pumps and a heater matrix from a car!

Got a new house with a new mancave plus I got a payout on the old PC, so I figured why not go nuts and have some fun with it :D:D

I'll post some pics when it is done

That is my guess too but the EZ_PLUG is a molex, which I have not seen used for PCIe power support before. I guess it is just the ££ of the mobo that is stopping me from being my usual gungho self and just sticking the 6pin PCIe plug in andd going for it... either that or I am getting old and sensible :eek:
