To 3600X Or Not To 3600X

Just wondering if anyone would give me a little advice please.
I'm currently looking at an upgrade for my 1600X - my basket choices are as follows...

Ryzen 5 3600
Asus X470 ROG Strix
Toshiba Kioxia 500GB NVME
or
Ryzen 5 3600X
Same MOBO minus the NVME drive

Now my issue is, the 3600X (this is what I really want tbh) includes a cooler and as my kids are having the 1600X and there is no cooler because they have a 3rd gen intel, the cooler won't fit. But on the other side, we all need the extra storage as my kids only have a 120GB SSD for their boot drive, but that's just too small really.

Now I know both the 3600 and 3600X are not miles apart, but as always, I will be doing an all core OC as I always do. Also, you are selling the Wraith cooler for not a lot at all, but still, I have my heart set on the X.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My budget is around the 400 squid mark and the X470 strix will be purchased too. I know I don't NEED the mobo as I can get a cheaper one, but as I have Lian-Li 011 Air and I will be using a custom loop so I want something pretty.

I would get the b450 tomahawk or pro carbon with a 3700x but I guess it's down to wether you prefer performance or looks.

Take a look at the B450-E Strix.

Wow, thank you for that and works for my budget... as for performance, I want the best I can get. I play certain games that are very heavy on single core performance (Arma, BeamNG & MC), hence why I want the X as there is a little better performance.

Sorry Joxeon, that takes me to the 400 mark without the storage.

You're welcome. If it's not Ryzen 3000 ready (it'll say on the box) you can use your Ryzen 1600X to update the BIOS first.

Storage can be boosted to 1TB if you choose Ryzen 3600. You'll have to decide what's more worth it - the slightly faster X or more storage.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £395.39 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Or just up the budget by £40 and get the X and 1TB.

Perfect, I really appreciate your assistance. 500GB and the X is what I will be getting as I have a 1TB SSD and 2TB SSHD - I do a lot of web development and linux based work and my desktop keeps getting bloated over time as I rarely clean it due to those just-in-case moments. I never really had many issues with space on my 256GB NVME drive as many files are less than 10KB, I just want to keep the total usage less than 50% capacity and better IOPS for compiling. Of which, that's just a personal preference as all my drives are mainly kept less that 50% total usage.

Again, thank you and my mind has been made up now! :D

Do you really need the 3600X over the 3600? It's a ~20% increase in cost for less than 10% performance gain.
Needs and wants are two very different things. Do I need it, no - do I want it, yes! Do I need an upgrade at all, no. It does everything I want well, I just want it better. Also, as my kids are having my current machine and as I have a custom loop, they will have the cooler that comes with the X.
