My intention is to build a mini-itx build centred around the 3800x paired with 2 x 8 GB of 3600mhz ram.
I know my 2700x was funny about anything higher than 3200 without weird config and timings but im guessing this was purely down to the IMC and not the board?
To cut costs down ( as i dont need pcie 4.0 ) and i do need wifi & BT for portabilitity reasons , ive been checking out going with a b450 board , mainly the b450 Auros Pro wifi ( mini-itx) as can be had for 115 notes rather than my previous choice of the x570 mini itx version of the same name ( 200+ notes ) i have a ryzen 2 cpu so bios updating isnt an issue but will this board with this cpu still allow me to get XMP speeds @ 3600 CL18? ( will be pushing for lower timings once built maybe cl16 if possible )

thanks in advanced

The b450i gaming plus is a good shout and can be snagged for around the same price if you shop around.

Running the ram at 3800 at 1-1 infinity fabric is going to be CPU dependant for example my brothers 3700x only does 1867 fclk so he can only push ram to 3733 while my r5 3600 will do 1900 so I can run ram at 3800. If you can't run 3800 then running slightly lower but with tighter timings almost makes up the difference.

Ram will be clocked at 3600 @ cl18 , hopefully will get the timings down to cl16, not really wanting to get the clocks any higher , did look at the board , i jus think i prefer not only the astetics of the aurous board , but history tells me i trust gigabyte over msi for build quality. can you confirm the b450 board isnt going to be the hinderence where ram is concerned? rather it will just be the IMC

You should be able to run 3600 ram on any b450 without issue so long as your using a ryzen 3000 series CPU. The main difference between the MSI and gigabyte boards is the vrm quality on the MSI board is superior in being a 6 phase rated at 60amp vs the gigabyte being a 4 phase rated at 50 amps.
