Hi,I've just signed up.Forgive me if I touch on any previously mentioned similarity with my own.
I am a freelance camera operator working as a Ltd co (last 5 years)I find myself now only getting work from one client. My earnings total on average 30k.So so much to read up on ir35
its doing my head in.One suggestion was to go "sole trader"Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.

Are you classed as consultant or office employee? Does the company have over 10mil turn over and over 50 staff or is SME?
Do you physically work every day at the same place (office), or you work some days while going around?

Are you paid in form of salary or delivered work?

The tests for whether you're an employee or not are subtle and strongly geared towards deciding you are an employee. Needs legal / accounting advice to find out which you are reliably.

I'd suggest taking a role as an employee instead. Far less hassle.

i believe it is the moment that you find out that you will be there for a minimum of 2 years that they start to treat you as an employee, not when you actually reach the 2 years.

so for people on a rolling 1 year contract, they find out pretty much as early as 1 year into the contract.

I am with SJD as well, find them very good so far. Going Ltd will save me a minimum of £15k in my first year, now, for even 1 hour a day i am sure we would all be happy for another 15k a year..

Duration at a client has nothing to do with your IR35 status. It's a myth. Only thing that changes when being at a place 2 years or longer is you can no longer claim mileage for travelling to and from the location.

You can be at a place 2 months, 2 years or 20 years. If your contract is outside IR35, and working practises match that of the contract, you're outside. Although you could argue that long term contracts are very rarely practising what the contract said in the beginning
