Bright colourful plant.

Slightly odd question.
We really don't do gardening and know nothing about plants.
We're after plant that would be kept in a pot and produce bright colorful blooms. An annual if possible. It'll be a mother's day gift.
Species to look out for please.

dahlia’s, grow these in my garden. Will re grow every year if you don't let the frost get to the tuber.

got a pot of begonias last year ,bright orange and they just never lost their colour all summer ,come back apparently ,best plant i ever got my mum was a camellia to plant,its massive now and in bloom on mothers day
 
I've always been fond of Hydrangeas, they come in a bunch of different colours but I think that may be dependent on your soil to an extent. If you plan on keeping them in a pot it should be easily managed if there's a specific colour you like.

They'll grow to a fair size if not cut back mind you, they're pretty hardy plants too and easy to look after.

i wish they were easy ive never managed to keep one alive in a pot!
