I am looking to buy a high-end new PC with a 2080ti/equiv GPU.

Last time my laptop broke and I could not get a new mobo and was forced to buy a new laptop just before the release of the 2000 series.

Currently I am waiting for the 3080ti/AMD equivalent as I dont want to be in situation when I buy then a new better version comes out a couple months after.

Situation has changed for me and I can buy a desktop this time.

I am a noob with high-end overclocking etc, and dont know too much about it.

I am just interested in what is coming out and if it is really worthwhile to wait?

I am really itchy to buy, but seriously dont want to buy then find out something much better for same price is there a month or so later.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply.

Hi, I was in the same position. Was going to wait for the 3080 but with the current state of affairs we may not see that now until the end of the year. I bit the bullet and got a great deal on a EVGA 2080ti FTW3 Ultra which arrived yesterday and its an awesome card. One great thing with EVGA is they offer what they call a 'Step Up' program. Basically if the 3080 drops within 90 days of me buying the 2080ti, I can pay the difference and they will upgrade me to the 3080 of my choice providing it is part of the promotion.

No one knows when the 3000 series will be available truth be told.

I wouldn't bother waiting now, they are not coming any time soon, and the release may wel be pushed back into next year. Get in now before the gouging really begins.

I don't really see the value in the 2080ti. It's a 20% improvement over a 1080ti, at double the cost, with a major selling feature that doesn't meet expectations. Real time ray tracing on the 2000 series is a joke, sure it's slightly better now. However, some games still require 1080p to hit 60fps on max settings.

The difference between you and me, though, is I already have a 1080ti. Would I be in your shoes, then it's slightly different. Best guess on 3000 series would be no earlier than Q4, but with Coronavirus messing up supply chains, who knows. The 2080ti is the best gamer GPU you can currently buy, if that's what you're after then it meets your requirements.

RTX Titan is the best. 2080Ti is the second best ;)

Are you allowed to speak of this great deal?

aint gonna happen anytime soon. Buy what you want now at the best price. Check out the clearance section and read the thread in the latest news section, put your offer in with Sales over the phone and see if it is accepted. I got a bargain for a RTX 2060 (basically cost me £80 after selling the old card) for my son.

Interestingly, that is the exact card I had my eye on, EVGA FTW3.

I didnt know about the step-up program, that sounds awesome.

Thank you for the info.

You including a monitor with your new PC? You need to decide what resolution/refresh rate you want to drive first. Seeing as though you maybe sat in for a while never a better time to buy, particularly this week as Gibbo said yesterday that due to the weakening of the £ then current offers end this week.

2560x1440 - 3440x1440 and 144hz or greater refresh rate with a 2070/ti/s or /2080/s and an AMD 3600X/3700x will have you with a very decent machine. Overclocking as a gamer is overrated and will give negligible frame rate difference. You'll spend hours tweaking for a few extra FPS. Most Nvidia cards self boost way over their rated specs out of the box anyway.

Deffo not something coming in a month or so that is way better for the money. Newer CPU's not that much increase for gaming fps anyway. Gfx cards - well ,wont be soon and the % uplift... well AMD may pull something out of the bag on 7nm but it's all guessing on the hype train at the moment.

Scratch that itch and get some shiny.

I said it's the best gamer GPU. The Titan is aimed at the prosumer market.
Is it? Thought that was just the first Titan that had DP. Since then they are exactly the same card as the gamers version. Basically the 2080Ti is the same with some cores disabled and less VRAM.

If you want to stay bang up to date and can afford to do so, then definitely get the 2080ti now. Then get the 3080ti when that comes out. Then the 4080ti.

Otherwise I can't see the point. You may as well get a 5700 or a 2070 super.

Buying pretty much the highest end gaming GPU and using it for years and years makes no sense. After 2 years, you're using a 2 year old GPU. If you're happy with 2 year old performance, you may as well get 2 year old performance from the start and save the money.

Not really, once you get to 120hz 4k fps, cant really see needing cards for a decent experience anything higher. 1080ti here - done very very well.

I agree, they've definitely muddied the water when it comes to the Titan. Especially giving it the RTX moniker this time around. However, on the Titan product page they do talk about how good it is for machine learning, so I guess they do still appear to be targeting the prosumer.

Buying 2080Ti right now ain't worth the price. Get something that you would be able to resell without losing money like a 5700 or 5700XT. They are going for sub £360 (XT). Consider the 2080Ti is 40% faster than this but 3-4 times more expensive. (model depending).
It just ain't worth, especially considering where the new consoles going to be in perf/cost.

Save the extra money (£600+) for an upgrade later in the year if you have that much spare money.

I agree. Crazy to over spend on a 2080ti right now. We are coming to the end of the 2000 series life cycle with new consoles dropping soon and new AMD / Nvidia cards on the horizon to follow.

A lot of changes going to happen in the not to distant future.
