EVGA RTX 2070 Super fans making ticking noises

Built a brand new rig last week and i seem to have a issue with my video card fans. Ive took the side panel off to see if i could find where the tick was coming from, and it appears to be the fans. They keep spooling up and stopping, constantly and this is causing the noise. Anything i can do?

When the PC is idle the fans dont spool up at all so theres no tick. I found it odd as a game had been on for over an hour and the fans weren't on properly.

What card is it?

Download MSI afterburner and make a custom fan profile which is in SETTINGS>FAN>tick enable user controlled fan profile.

Have the fans kick in at 60c (normal temp on cards with fan stop) and then test with various fan curve settings. Test first at 60c=0% then a line so 70c=50% and go from there. If too noisy/hot then reduce/increase the curve to suit noise and temps.

In general there is a lot you can do and play around with fan curve wise to suit what you want.

Card is EVGA as title. I seem to of solved it with evga precicion x software doing as you say. Little annoying, never had to do this on any previous cards.

Thanks for reply.

So you've got the fans kicking in now once you go over 60c? Do you know what your fan profile was before you did the fix?? What temps are you getting in your games if you don't mind me asking? Thank you! :)

It can be annoying and shouldn’t be required. Most of it is down to both bios setup and fan design.

You could always get in touch with EVGA (excellent warranty) and they may advise you to a new bios update for the card or possible future fix for the card.

Hi. No ive got the fans on constantly now. Ive set a custom graph for fan speed and temp. The problem was the fans spinning up from idle. Ive got them to run really low like 20% while the GPU is idle. No idea on fan profile before, sorry. I had a quick go on Doom Eternal last night and it wasnt going over 65C.

There is a lot of people reporting the same thing, some saying its wires in the card hanging low and hitting the fans, im not so sure on that.

I agree Tyler it shouldn't be required on a 450quid bit of kit. Strange thing is it looks like its been an issue for over 2 years as im finding posts on EVGA forums from 2018, and they still haven't done anything about it.

Thanks for the reply Smokey! I suppose the fans running super low isn't that bad as it's probably inaudible. But those temps look pretty good to me! Are you happy with the card overall? Just picked up a 2070 Super myself so am pretty excited to move away from a GTX 560 haha!

If it's low hanging fans that might be something you can fix yourself I suppose. Or there might be someone who has done a McGuyver fix to it?

Very happy with the performance. At low speeds the fans are silent. There pretty much inaudible upto 50% anyway. Few more hours on Doom Eternal and no issues, temps are fine, noise is fine.

Yeah its an easy fix with the wire, but i'am sure that wasn't my issue.

Will be a massive upgrade for you coming from a GTX 560 lol. I came from a 970.

@Smokey26 what model of 2070s did you get mate?

I bought the vanilla "black edition" as I got a great price on it new, but have no issues with fans etc.. and performance is pretty good too!

Awesome! I'm pretty excited I picked up the LG 1440p monitor and my PC is not enjoying itself, crashed out of GTA V a few times now so I'm kinda paused on the gaming until it arrives. Going to be doing a whole new build soon as my rig has done me well but it's time to retire the poor thing!

Glad to hear that it's quiet and cool! I want to have a quieter build this time.

My old zotac 1070( i think that was it) did this. It was just how the Zotac coolers worked and they too would switch from on to off all the time

I think a solenoid or something switches every time they go and off. It drove me mental. These zero rpm solutions will always have an element of this (ie under certain loads the fans will keep turning off and on again).

Just recently got a gigabyte 2070 super gaming OC card and thankfully, the windforce triple cooler doesn't have any annoying clicks (you can hear a very faint woosh when the fans first turn on occasionally but only with no sound on in game).
