Never let it be said that Nature doesn't have a sense of humour. On the positive side, it's probably better that it's going off like this... slow release of pressure, making a big bang, Yellowstone stylee, unlikely. But I daren't research reports from the last eruption to find out whether it had been smoking for a while before deciding to cause a bit of gentle crop failure for a few years.

I'd raise an eyebrow if Vesuvius started getting active though, or the ones in Canary Islands or Iceland or Yellowstone :)
Don’t know if it’s a load of rubbish, but I read once that if there’s a big enough eruption on the island of La Palma in the canaries, it could cause a huge tidal wave that could travel across the Atlantic and devastate much of the US eastern seaboard.
