So i decided to try out the Linksys AC1200 Wireless-AC USB device to pair with my Oculus Quest for wireless streaming from my PC (using Virtual Desktop), i originally was using my main router which worked great but as there are a few people in the house that also connect to the main router it would case streaming issues when the router was in demand so i decided to get a dedicated wireless device just that would have the Oculus Quest connected to.

Now the Linksys is state as 866Mbps approx when using 5Ghz 802.11ac bandwidth upon initially plugging in the device i was only getting a 2.4Ghz signal from the device according to Virtual Desktop (VD needs a 5Ghz signal to be able to stream games from the PC to the Quest). I had to setup the device as a Mobile Hotspot and apparently when you set the name and password for the network there is supposed to also be a 'Speed band' setting that should allow you to select either 2 or 5 Ghz but for me there is no such option!

Upon further investigation i was able to find the settings for the Linksys Wireless device, i had to go Control Panel>Device Manager>Network adapters>Linksys WUSB6300>Properties, there are a whole selection of settings here:

AdaptivitPara: 0
BeamCap: BEAM Disabled
EnableAdaptivity: Auto
High Adhoc Mode: Disabled
HLDiffForAdaptivity 7
L2HForAdaptivity: Auto
LdpcCap: VHT LDPC TX|HT LDPC TX
Preferred Band: No Preference
QoS Support: Support QoS
StbcCap: VHT STBC TX|RX & HT STBC TX|RX
USB SF Mode: Disabled
USB Switch: Mode Auto
VHT 2.4Gh: Enabled
Wireless Mode: Auto

The only options i change from the above was :

BeamCap: VHT BEAM TX|RX
Preferred Band: 5G First
USB SF Mode: Enabled
VHT 2.4G: Disabled
Wireless Mode: IEEE 802.11ac

Or though Virtual Deskop doesnt report only receiving a 2.4Ghz signal anymore (great!) so must be getting a 5Ghz signal, the speed is only at 173Mbps!. Any ideas why im not getting in the region of 800Mbps as it should be using the 802.11ac band as configure with the above settings?

I've got a Netgear A7000 AC1900 USB adapter and I get up to 280 mbit/s in a flat environment i.e. not far from the router.

I currently have a gigabit connection so use a CAT 6 cable instead.

By the way the reason why I only achieved 45 mbit/s upload in my first result was that I had a 500/50 connection when I ran that speedtest and now have a full gigabit as can be seen by my second result.

My ISP decided to upgrade everyone to a full gigabit whilst we are fighting coronavirus.

When Linksys say 833Mbps they actually mean 416Mbps in each direction because it's a half-duplex process.

So the maximum speed in absolutely perfect conditions will be 416Mbps.

So are the settings i set correct then, as atm im only getting about 175Mbps!??

EDIT: I just uninstalled the device from the device manager and reinstalled so all setting are back to default and the Oculus Quest is seeing the device as 2.4Ghz yet the link speed is still reporting 175Mbps!!, so even with me enabling 5Ghz via the device manager settings of the device it doesnt seem to be increasing the speed!??

Im using mine as a hotspot though, not range extender. So it should be getting the full speed from my PC which the device is plugged into and this PC is using a wired connection straight to the modem

Don’t know mate your topology has gone above my head.

It’s impossible to say. If you’re going to get a big boost, it’s Most likely to come from going to VHT40 from VHT20. Given that you’re having to adjust things in Windows Control Panel, it doesn’t sound like the software is correctly installed.

Thats the thing though there is no software, just comes with a driver CD, but windows 10 already detect the device.

I seem to have better performance now, i set everything back to default and changed the Wireless Mode setting IEEE 802.11a/n/ac and now the Oculus Quest is reporting Link Speed of 866Mbps so far better than the 175Mbps i was getting earlier
