B550 motherboarda to feature PCI-E 4.0

Price dependant these might tempt me to finally ditch my x370 board as it just won’t let me push the ram any higher than 3200 which I think is holding back my 3700x somewhat.

I was beginning to give up on these. Surprised to see a chipset fan though although it is nice to see PCIe 4.0 feature. I might finally be tempted out of my B450 when these land.

What chipset fan ???? B550 dont have a chipset fan, there's no PCI-e 4.0 lanes from the chipset, the only devices on B550 that will get PCI-e 4 is the first GPU slot......and on some boards, the first nvme slot, they will get their PCI-e 4 lanes direct from the CPU, the same as with X570 now, everything else on X570 runs at PCI-e 4 because the chipset supplies the additional lanes for those other devices, hence it needs a fan to keep it cool, B550 basically has a very slightly upgraded outsourced B450 chipset, the image in 2nd link is the MSI Godlike X570 motherboard as there isnt any images of popular brands of B550 motherboards yet.

Everything connected to the chipset will be PCI-e 3, so that will be any additional nvme slots, PCI-e x1 slots and any additional x16 slots, unless you are running one of the latest AMD 5000 series Graphics cards or a PCI-e 4 nvme drive, B550 will have no benefit over B450.

do we think B550 launch will push b450 prices down, as will soon be buying a new board and cpu so was wondering if I should hold off

I have two X370 boards that will do at least 3600mhz ram. That's with a b-die good bin kit. I suspect it may be a limitation of the ram. I have a 32gb dual rank kit that won't go above 3200 despite being b-die as well.
