Since the virus particularly I've seen so so many scams on Facebook. That seem to be going on for months. Ie, Facebook book does nothing.

This week I've seen a particularly dangerous one with unqualified electrician producing fake certificates and carrying out dangerous work.

This is obviously criminal

The prevalence of this is so bad now its almost like 1 out of 4 is a fake item, pyramid scheme or plain theft.

Should it be closed?

Only if everything similar (Gumtree etc.) is closed down too - otherwise they'll just move to wherever everyone starts using instead.

Anywhere with a free to advertise marketplace is going to get abused like this, there's nothing special about Facebook marketplace beyond it's current popularity

Give a criminal a tool to create crime they will use it. :) The thing is..... these sites not making tools to combat the issues that are happening. They just turn a blind eye.

Problem is with ebay - the fees. A little too much at times.

Yeah only sell expensive stuff on 1 pound listing days!

Use it all the time - like anything, it’s a great tool if you use it carefully. I recently sold my broken 15” 2017 MacBook Pro for £650, then bought a 13” 2017 MacBook Pro with a damaged screen for £200, which I then swapped for a fully working 2015 MacBook Pro 13”, which I gave to my wife. Then, a day later, I sold her old 2012 13” one with a dying battery for £200.

I do that type of thing all the time, particularly at the moment as I have less work than I do normally. Keeps me busy and puts a bit of money in your pocket at the same time. Never had an issue using Facebook marketplace.

No of course it shouldn't be don't be daft.

Scams are prevalent on every marketplace. EBay is the worst of them all.

Facebook marketplace is great for picking up bargains and getting rid of things either free or cheap so they can be used again rather than binned.

I dropped off a 5ft florescent tube light with someone the other day. In working order but I'd replaced for LED. Where else would I have got rid of that other than the (currently closed) tip?
