Ordering a gigabyte 5700xt tuesday for my 17 year old nephew. Turns out that his younger brother is “desperate for a pc” .

there is a budget of £2000 to spend on what has to be :

1440p gaming with 144hz and either freesync or gsync.

He does have a copy of windows .

He is 15 and been using my old i5 3570k + gtx 780 setup for the last few years as well as his ps4:
He has been at mine since the whole covid19 and had more exposure to 1440p / 144hz gaming faster response times .
He has come up with the following list of components after reading this forums and looking up you tube videos.

Total: £2,003.80 (includes shipping: £0.00)

My brother in law works on off shore rigs and got stuck on board 3 days over what he was supposed to be and got a pretty penny for it ... that explains £2000 budget for a 15 year old.

He picked out extra ram and storage as he plays games like city skylines and likes to mod certain games.
He also needs wifi as my sister has and will cut through any cables on the floor

Would anyone mind taking a look and amending where possible?

thanks

There's a few problems I can see.

That case is AWFUL, I know it might look pretty but the airflow is crap given the size of the intake fans and I've heard numerous complaints about its build quality.

I wouldn't spend £420 on a TN monitor, not a chance in hell.

Take a look at the Pixio PX7 Prime, here's a review:

I'd also say that mouse is over priced unless he's specifically used it, there's on par for almost half that.

The rest looks decent.

You can get it for £400 if you shop around, it's a FreeSync IPS screen running at 1440P/165Hz.

I'd consider shopping around for the 3600, £200 is kinda expensive given I've seen them for under £180 recently.

thanks for the input. Had a word and he says :

the case was pure rgb :/

the monitors are thin on the ground so not much here at overclockers..
the pixio reviews are spot on.
Thanks again

There's a bunch of cases out there with all the RGB in the world that perform well.

The PX7 is an excellent bit of kit for £400, definitely worth picking up.

Here's an idea with some changes:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,598.85 (includes shipping: £0.00)

1. 3700X instead of the 3600
2. Dropped the SATA SSD to save some cash, adding more storage down the line if needed is the easiest thing in the world.
3. Big flashy high quality case similar in look to the one he originally picked out, with it being B-Stock you might be able to contact customer support and put in a cheeky offer to get it a bit cheaper, also added an extra RGB fan to replace the plain exhaust.
4. Different/Cheaper mouse that's high quality, it even has the all important RGB!

Grab the PX7 with the £400 leftover.

Here's a cheaper mesh fronted case with ARGB as an alternative to the one above:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £79.99 (includes shipping: £0.00)

5700XT is 450quid now? Bloody hell.

How about a Phanteks A400A or 300A and save a far bit more?

Edit: Cant believe how much the prices have gone up. What a joke.

Everything is ridiculously expensive atm.

I'd agree on the Phanteks P400A but it seems the build is for a 15 year old and he wants some rgb/bling.

This is a good option and excellent value if RGB isn't a must, it still has lighting it's just static:
