DVI-D to HDMI

At the moment, I have 2x Asus GeForce GTX 980Ti DC3 OC Strix 6144MB GDDR5 in SLi and these are connected, via DVI to my LG Flatron M2762D 27’ TFT Monitor/Digital HD TV (1080P).

I am interested in purchasing a new or 2 (for SLI) new graphics cards, either GEFORCE RTX 2080 SUPER ROG STRIX OC 8192MB GDDR6 PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD or GEFORCE RTX 2070 SUPER ROG STRIX ADVANCED 8192MB GDDR6 PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD.

Neither of these two cards have a DVI port. From my TV manual, I can’t use direct HDMI because it states….

NOTE
HDMI Input does not support PC mode. If it is connected PC, the screen may not display properly.

So that’s out of the question.

The DVI on the rear of the TV/monitor states that the DVI port is a DVI-D, so from what I have read, this is all good.

Now, can I use a HDMI cable from the graphics card, with an HDMI to DVI adapter to then plug into the DVI port on the back of my TV/monitor? If I can, what would be the best one to get and does anyone know if there is an adapter that comes with the graphics cards?

I know the TV/monitor, is a bit old, but it is still a really good TV/monitor, so I don’t really want to spend a few hundred pounds on a new monitor as well.

For 1080p it's just a physical conversion and there's nothing much to trip you up.

Search for an HDMI to DVI cable. Anything with correct plugs on will work.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm trying to find out what comes in the box for those cards, as there might be an adapter. I can't seem to find a video or information, that just shows the contents of the box. I'll keep searching ;)

Just got an HDMI to DVI cable, pulled the DVI to DVI cable out, plugged in the DVI into my monitor and the HDMI into my 980ti and away it went, great stuff.

Now, as I might be keeping the 980ti's until the 3xxxti come out, I suppose I could upgrade my monitor. Now my 980's have displayport connections, I take it if I get a new monitor which has displayport and connect my 980ti sli via displayport, will it make the graphics better, well better than DVI connection I have at the moment? The monitor/tv i have at the moment is technically a 1080p TV with a DVI PC connection. Displayport being better than HDMI, I take it.?

If I get a dedicated PC monitor like the below, this should make it a whole lot better???

ROG STRIX XG32VQ 32" 2560X1440 VA FREESYNC 144HZ GAMING WIDESCREEN 1800R CURVED LED MONITOR

At the same resolution/refresh rate, there'll be no noticeable difference between the same monitor connected using DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort.

Ignoring the connection type, any modern dedicated monitor will almost certainly be a decent improvement over an old TV.
