Yeah garage is classed as outbuilding, even if integral from memory.
I've had a filled out application on desk for a year and not got around to submitting it. How did you all figure out where it should go?
I was going to apply and wait to hear then once the inspection comes ask them where to place the safe. I thought the loft was #1 ask from them, sounds like that may differ depending where you live?
Mine went in the loft, they liked it there as the more awkward to access the better. They also liked the idea of keeping ammo on a completely different location. But I didn't need to store ammo just rifles.

My garge is pretty dry, loft is probably worse for moisture, garage is ironically IMO the most secure part of the house as only part of the house that is alarmed constantly and has a motion senstive camera inside that comes up on my phone whenever movement is detected, plus has a solid concrete floor. I know ultimately I'm going to have to stick it in a bedroom instead, but I'll give it a try when the time comes.
I heard a lot of FEO's don't like lofts as well as they think you'll not bother securing the guns all the time if it's an inconvience like having to go into a loft, suprsing to see a few people with them there.
Back in the day when we were allowed to own firearms/pistols my police fao wanted 2 separate cabinets(1 for ammo and 1 for firearms)in separate locations in the house
Just saying. Not sure what rules there are now a days

Guidelines just say it has to be stored in its own individual secure storage which can include a integral and lockable compartment within a gun cabinet. That is going to be my plan anyways, planning on getting a cabinet with a separate lockable compartment. People I've talked to have that setup, which seems to be satisfactory.
