I've got a 10 Gbit network at home which my NAS and Gaming PC are connected up to. I'm interested in connecting my MacBook Pro (2018 model) to it as well. I've seen various 10 Gbit adaptors for sale and I've read some reviews. They're looking around £175 upwards so I'm keen to know if anyone here has any experience of them?

I’ve used the QNAP one and it’s solid. It does get very warm, but it’s not failed yet after almost 6 months of use.

I've looked into the QNAP one and I've read a lot of people complain about the fan noise, which for obvious reasons I'm not keen on.

I use the OWC one (OWCTB3ADP10GBE) on one of my Mac Minis that I stupidly forgot to put the 10Gb port on. Works fine, no noise. Does get a bit sweaty though - hut gun says it's 49deg.

I think the fan noise really depends on how noisy your environment is. If you’re a quiet fanatic then it’s probably not for you but then it’s quieter than the fan on the MacBook it’s plugged into. It’s all relative.

Anyone heard of it have experience of these:

Under £150 if no import duty or VAT is applied which I guess would happen.

On the device itself, no, I’ve not tried it but the fact that it appears to be one big heatsink suggests they know it’s going to run warm. Which is fine because they all run warm. It will either work or it won’t.

On the import duty and VAT, it seems to depend on how the item is described and if you’re sending it to a domestic address. I’ve had stuff turn up totally unmolested by HMRC (or their agents at the ports) yet something I RMA’d to Ubiquiti in the US came back with a £300 bill for paying the duty when it left Europe and then re-entered. You’re looking at (from memory) 8% import duty and 20% VAT so about £180 in total based on the price including shipping charges.

It looks remarkably similar to the OWC one - wouldn't be surprised if it comes from the same factor, and it's about the same price in UK GBP. It does run hot - currently sitting at 52 degs.

Actually I may change my mind as it doesn't have HDMI out. I have two monitors in my Office/gaming room. Monitor 1 is an Acer X34P connected to my PC using Display Port. I sometimes connect my Mac up to this with HDMI. The second monitor is USB-C. I can't use both monitors with that dock alone which kind of defeats the object.
